Sorry to hear about the loss of sensation in your limbs and your eyes going yellow (really is more of an orange, isn't it?).

It's a waste of your time to read about early stage alcoholism. Skip waaaay ahead to the part where the drunk's body goes bad in various ways and what happens then. It's an interesting process, and most often the drunk keeps drinking through it as you're doing.

Stop if you can, or get someone check on you every 3 days or so if you can't. It's not a pleasant way to go, hope you can find some way to at least put it off for a while.

Noro - don't put off going to the Dr. any longer

The liver is amazing at restoring itself - but the longer you keep drinking, tapering or not, and the longer you put off seeing to this, the less chance you'll have of a full recovery.

We only get one life - don't mess with it, man.

Noro...don't put off going to the doctor. Yellow eyes are nothing to play around with. Sober or not, get your butt to the hospital. Let us know how it goes,

Noro, I have liver disease(some fibrosis), and I know alot about it. Go to the doctor or hospital and get a good evaluation.

You can be very sick with liver disease and even cirrhosis and halt the progression of the disease by stopping the drinking and getting proper medical attention.

Please get medical attention. You can be helped.

Thank you for the advice, folks, and you're all correct. I can't put off seeing a doctor. The only thing temporarily holding me back is that I want to be sober before I see the doctor. I don't want to have to be withdrawing when I'm there, have a seizure on the way over there, shake throughout the examination, etc. I've had about five beers today and have 13 in my fridge, and plenty of vodka next to me, and I honestly have no interest in touching either right now. My plan is to see a doctor early next week. I think my taper should be down from five beers a day to just a couple by then, if any. It's a quick taper, and I'm surprised it's going so smoothly (so far). This might be the first time in several months that I've had beer in the fridge with no interest in opening one.

I totally understand that I shouldn't be putting off a doctor's visit any longer. Tomorrow I intend to look up a good specialist in these matters, make the phone call, and make an appointment for maybe Monday. I just don't want to feel like I need to show up there with a couple beers in my stomach in order to handle it.

I'll keep you all posted. Thank you very much for being there for me. I've needed this help for a long time now.

There are great comments here! I just gave up alcohol and percocets 8 days clean and sober. I had gone to the ER with belly pains and bloating. I had all kinds of test that showed ok BUT my liver enzymes were up to 700 (normal is 40) I freaked and walked out the door and quit it all!.....not only had I been suffering with the bloating pain etc. I had a lot of the symptoms you have. I did a followup with my Dr. and another blood draw (on the 5th day of abstinence of substances) got my results of bloodwork today and enzymes down to 100 and this is after only 5 days quitting substances which included daily alcohol as well as my perscription percs for severe back problems. I was and still am frightened but so relieved to see major progress with the enzymes. I am no youngster but started using back in the late sixties (yes a flowerchild)....we I want to LIVE longer and feel good for however long I am blessed to be here. PLEASE go to your Dr. I'm told that the liver has an amazing ability to regenerate and heal. You are young and SO much to live for...again PLEASE read these responses people have written and SEE YOU DR. Sometimes FEAR can be a great motivator.

I still say the longer you wait the worse it will get. The doctors know how to handle your situation. Making a good impression at the doctors office should be the least of your concerns.

What makes you think you'll make it until early next week, Noro?

You're dancing on the edge, Noro. The docs can help you safely detox. You are far less likely to have a seizure under their care. If you seize at home, what then? You are not thinking clearly. You are not being nearly as smart about this as your alcoholic mind wants you to believe. Please trust what people here—including highly trained professionals—are telling you.

Thank you for the responses. I just woke up not long ago. I didn't end up having anymore beer last night. Stuck with Gatorade. No notable withdrawal symptoms, or even any strong cravings, oddly enough. I still have all my beer in the fridge, untouched. I am not craving this morning either, and it's nice not to be hungover.

The problem is that, like every morning, my urine was very dark when I went to the bathroom after I woke up. And it burned. I usually attributed that to dehydration from getting drunk the night before. But now that doesn't seem to be the case, since all I was drinking last night was Gatorade. Obviously there are still things I need to take a look at. I'm going to call a doctor today and make the appointment for as soon as possible. I'm going to start looking up doctors in my area right now. In the meantime, I'm going to try to drink even less today.

Noro, if you have jaundice the liver may not be functioning. You need to stop ingesting alcohol immediately and go to the ER. More alcohol will only worsen your condition.

You also spoke of dark urine which would suggest hepatic Jaundice. This is no joke.

This is only an opinion as we cannot give medical advice but as a peer I suggest you see a doctor immediately and do not drink another drop.

Since you are sober, and that was your concern, go to the ER today. Please. Jaundice is serious. There is no shame in asking for help and wanting to get well at any point in your life.

You may have to wait to long by calling for an appointment. If you do go that route, be honest about your drinking and tell them you are jaundiced. They should see you urgently for that.

I did some research and found a gastroenterologist who specializes in liver disease, amongst other things. I'm going to make the call this morning and ask for an appointment as soon as possible. I've had nothing to drink today and am going to try to tough it out for the rest of the day. Hopefully when making the appointment I can communicate how serious this seems to be, and maybe they'll take me in this afternoon. I did some research and kept in mind what Sudz said about hepatic jaundice, and I think it's actually advanced beyond that to post-hepatic, based on what I've read. I think I'm in for a tough ride.

I will keep you guys updated...

Please do keep us up to date. If the specialist cannot fit you in, please do get seen somewhere today. I am thinking of you and checking in, hoping you go get some medical help.

I know how scary it is to know something is wrong. But it is better to know and have a plan than to live in fear.

Glad you are taking action Noro, I've seen too many here ignore major warning signs and it's good to see you are not.

I'm optimistic for you that you caught this in time and are seeking treatment. Good luck with your initial visits to the doctor and keep us in the loop.
