What was said to you that helped in the begining?
I remember someone saying " What other people think about me is none of my business." That stuck with me. What ws said to you that helped you get past the first month?
I was very lost, and someone said "Your soul has a purpose in this life. You just need to be quiet and listen". This allowed me to let go of my control-freak issues and to feel sure that I did indeed belong here.
"Just for today" helped me immensely. I find huge comfort in that thought and go over it a lot. I don't have to think/worry/obsess about not drinking for the rest of my life. I don't have to play out future events without alchohol and wonder HOW??? All I have to do is get through today. All I have to worry about is here and now.
"Just dont drink"
"Detox is a bit**"
"You got the DT's, sweat it out"
"Eat something, you're fading to nothing"
"No, it's a rehab, not another hospital"
"Sobriety is for the living. Shake off your baggage"
"Get it right today. There is no tomorrow"
"Give a hug. Get a hug"
"Come to your own higher power understanding"
"Yeah, its time to give love another try"
"Losers quit on themselves. Winners dont quit"
"Take a look at yourself before you got something to say about anybody else"
"Living spiritually is a choice, not a punishment"
"Nothing on the streets gonna help you become somebody your not"
"To keep what we have we give it away"
"Keep coming back"
"Its a journey, dont sweat the small stuff"
"Sobriety can be forever. You do the math"
My first thirty days happened in a 30 day supervised detox, and then 60 days in a residential rehab with 24 other live-in alcoholics and drug addicts male and female, then graduation and after care. I attended AA throughout. Been sober many years now, and since that last detox.

"a grateful drunk will never drink again"...i try to count my blessings and give thanks for being so fortunate every single day, whether here or elsewhere. the "attitude of gratitude" goes a long way for me
