"If I can get sober, you can too."

"It really does get better"

and I will never, ever forget when I started to look alive again someone said "Wow, you really look good today". I had not heard that in many, many years!

"Hang on Andrew the others will be here soon" Margie-WQD
I learned I was not a freak of nature, that I was not alone.

"Alcoholism is a prison with the key inside the cell"
Success and failure are your responsibility.

"There is no difference between a glass of paint and a glass of alcohol" Allen Carr
Speaks of benefits of alcohol-there are NONE.

And my dear Raheem who's death inspired this poem.

I am more powerful than the combined armies of the world;

I have destroyed more men than all the wars of the all the nations;

I have caused millions of accidents and wrecked more homes than all the floods, tornadoes and hurricanes put together;

I am the worlds' slickest thief.

I steal billions of dollars each year;

I find my victims among the rich and poor alike,

I am relentless, insidious, unpredictable;

I bring sickness, poverty and death;

I give nothing and take all;

I am your worst enemy;

I am alcohol.

RIP Raheem Bath.

I would talk, talk, talk, and then talk some more.....but someone here kept on hammering me with "so what is your plan?". I finally stopped and thought about it. And I figured out --- just NOT drinking is only an action, but not a PLAN.

And if that sounds good, that's only a fraction of what you get from working these steps....how does a happy content life till the day you die - guaranteed - sound?"

If you find that you are alcoholic, you don't ever have to drink again, ever. We won't offer you a pain free life, but we can offer you a way of living that makes sense to you.....My life never made sense to anybody. Today it does.

"Life is hard sober but it's harder drunk" - this means something to those who have had paranoid/anxiety/depression ridden days after blackouts.

Hearing that it IS going to get better both here and through some sober friends really helps.

So I'll pass it along--I'm on day 40 today and it feels pretty good. I still think about not drinking but it is getting better! I am blessed to be surrounded by supportive friends and family. IT DOES GET BETTER!
