Needing Advice....
Needing Advice....
Hi everyone
I do not like A.A. I gave it several tries and it's just not for me.I need something so i wanted to ask the experienced people for advice.Should i go to a counselor, psychologist, psychiatrist etc?I do feel at some point i need to interact with a group or something.I'm a very depressed person and i think part of it is isolating myself.I'm a very open minded person, but i'm not sure which way to turn.I'm on high B.P meds and anxiety meds.I know about the no medical advice, but i just would like to find out different option and what has helped others who feel A.A isn't for them.
Thanks for any info...

I would suggest you start looking for a counselor or therapist that specializes in 'addiction.'
And if you do not have insurance, many do work on a 'sliding fee basis.'
Also, since AA is not for you, check out our Secular Connections Forum:
Secular Connections - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information
Also the 'sticky' at the top of this forum:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...formation.html
As there are many different types of recovery and recovery programs discussed.
Hope that helps a bit.
Love and hugs,

Sorry to hear that. I was the same way so I farted around with a number of different things for 7 years, kept getting loaded, got into so much trouble and got so miserable that I had not choice BUT to turn to AA. Hopefully your luck will be different than mine was.
Looking back, it didn't work for me and I didn't like it either......but one thing's true for the two of us....it certainly doesn't work if you don't work the steps. Once I did.....and did so in spite of not wanting to.....it worked just like I was promised it would.

Hi nvguy
Laurie gave you the two links I would have
If you're interested in Rational Recovery/AVRT (another secular approach) you'll find them in the Secular Connections forum too.
If you're concerned about your meds do you have a doctor you can speak with?
