I had no idea......
I had no idea......
I had no idea that my life would be this great after 9 months of sobriety. I just got back from a wonderful cruise with my partner and a couple of friends and life is so great. I almost lost everything because of alcohol and drugs and now I have gotten it all back and a whole lot more. It's not just the material things such as getting my license back today or getting nominated for Teacher of the Year this year. It's not the fact my Doctoral studies are going fabulous and I'm excelling beyond my wildest dreams. It's not the marathons and half marathons that I have been running, that make me feel like I'm on top of the world.
It's a sense of peace, a serenity that I am achieving. It's something I never had with all the drugs I took. I used to try to achieve the perfect equilibrium, a little of this, a little of that, but I would never get it just right.
Today I'm getting it just right, and I'm not taking anything.
I don't come to this forum as much anymore, but when I read about people "Wanting to accept their alcoholism and continue drinking", it makes me so freaking thankful that I am not in that position anymore and now I see the light.
Sobriety is not a destiny, it's a journey. We all must take our own paths, I just hope the ones who are struggling start heading down the right road soon before it's too late, because tomorrow is not guaranteed.
