Drinks to replace alcohol for the alcoholic
Hi, I'm Jim and I'm an alcoholic.
I'm new here today and this is my first post.
I was wondering what you fellow alcoholics like to drink as a "replacement"?
Thankyou.

Coffee! I never drank coffee until I gave up alcohol. Now I have about 4-6 cups a day ... And .. I have heard that amont can actually help your liver ... ... but I don't know if that's backed up very well. Apparently there have been studies, but it was Dr. Google who told me that ... lol.
(Oh, and water for sure .. I try for 3L a day myself.)

I haven't replaced alcohol with anything...I just drink whatever I find I like thats good and thirst quenching
I don't drink NA beer or wine or mocktails or anything like that...I don't need to be reminded of what I used to drink

The very first time I stopped drinking, I drank NA beer because I was so used to coming home from work and having a can in my hand. I told my AODA counselor this at the time and he gave me a funny look. He thought it was a waste of money and calories and that I was probably just thirsty after work and should try a nice glass of water instead. He was completely right on all counts. Oh, and the stuff tasted nasty...as you can probably assume. lol
But stay hydrated with whichever beverage of choice. Water is your best bet, soda and coffee will dehydrate you but a lot of people choose to keep their caffeine addictions anyway...including me. I have read in various places that a newly sober person should avoid caffeine and sugar because they create mood swings...not that I recommend it personally, but it's one of the many view points out there.

Ginger ale.
Many relapses ago, I remember becoming addicted to caffeine - I drank coffee and Red Bulls like crazy. It made me really irritable and it was just gross and unhealthy.
I have about 3 cups of coffee a day now (2 in the morning and one around 2pm), but I don't over do it. A lot of people joke, especially people who do AA, how they live off of caffeine....but I'd be careful of really drinking TOO much.

Anything except alcohol! I used to have tunnel vision when it came to beverages, there were only 3 as far as I was concerned: wine, water and coffee. Now I feel like a whole new world of beverages has opened up to me. Juice, soda, sparkling water, dark roast decaf coffee, hot and iced tea, warmed up vanilla soy milk with cinnamon, etc......
I had no idea I could enjoy so many other types of beverages!
