Theres a meeting in 2 hours but i'm too chicken to go
Im on day 47 sober, ive never been to a meeting before but i've toyed with the idea for a few weeks.
I've found a meeting and its not far away prob about a 10 min walk, but my mind is trying to talk myself out of going because basically i'm just too scared of meeting a group of strangers who prob have been attending for months.
Its like a first day of school fear its also a massive community complex so im bound to have to ask someone "do you know which room the AA meeting is in?" and i'm scared of doing that as well!
Maybe i'm just not ready yet! :/

Yes, metalheads are allowed in AA meetings. If you listen to what I suspect you do then you never had a problem going into a group of strangers drunk and acting a fool like I did.
Welcome to AA. Come on in.

Hi Opeth,
Remember - every person in that room at one time walked in for the first time.
I get the anxiety though. Funny that, in 20 years of drinking, I never had an issue walking into a new bar for the first time - even in countries where I didn't speak the language. I was there for a drink and those were 'my people', sight unseen, as we were all there for the same reason. Well, in AA, you are seeking to live a sober life. The people there are there for the same reason you are.

I know it is scary, but go! You will be absolutely amazed at how at home you will probably feel. I was petrified before my first meeting and when I got in there I was welcomed with open arms and have never felt so at ease with complete strangers. If you keep going, they won't be strangers for long though!
Good luck and let us know the outcome.

I walked past it twice and on the third attempt forced myself to go through the door, It was ok though, the chair made a beeline for me the minute I walked in and I had a little starter park within 90 secs. I'm not a massive talker at the best of times so I just listened, some of the sharing was really dark but it always ended on a message of hope.
I didnt get a chip though which I'm bummed about lol. Don't think they do them!
Anyway it was a positive experience and I shall go back on Tuesday for another one.

Good for you, I'm glad you went! The first aa meeting I went to I was scared but I walked in by myself. I had so much trouble getting clean in the first week so I went to a meeting everyday for a week. It helped me a lot. Congrats on your 47 days!
