First counseling session. what to expect?

I was a weekend-only drinker who quit 3 months ago. I've been reading as my form of support, both here (thanks!) and books.

I know the chances of long term success are improved with outside help, so I've setup an appointment with an addiction psychiatrist.

What should I expect in the appointment? Any advice?

thank you.

Hi,

Congratuulations on your 3 months.

Expect to be a willing partner in your counselling sessions. A first one means a sharing, in your own words, of what you have troubling you and what you expect to resolve from counselling.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor, and so is able to write scrip, as well as do therapy with you.

Be yourself as best you can and as honest as you can is the best way forward through any counselling sessions, first or otherwise.

Hope you have success!
