I saw that article yesterday... I thought there would be some more useful info in it, but maybe for those who aren't as familiar with alcoholism as we are it is a good primer. Thanks for posting.

thanks for posting the link,

I was somewhat disappointed with the UK coverage of Amy Winehouse's death, they spent most of the time telling us that she was '5 times over the alcohol limit' without actually discussing what that actually meant, for most of the day they only said she died 'By misadventure', what does that mean? it wasn't until later in the evening that I actually saw someone who knew what they were talking about on the beeb, and even then it was only a 5 minute segment.

Ask anyone what '5 times over the limit is' and they would assume its a lot, but they dont know what alot is, so they assume that they will never do such a thing, yet people do!

people need educating posts like this are a good step

it just makes me think how many times i must have teetered on the edge of death after living on a half a gallon of whiskey a day the last 6 months of my drinking career.

But for the grace of God....there are no words except... scary.

Thanks for posting the article. It was driving me nuts not knowing how much poor Amy had drunk - as AoS said, there was a lot of lazy reporting which just mentioned the drink-drive limit - hardly meaningful. What an absolute tragedy.

Thank you Bulldog777, yes what a horrible trajedy for Amy to die so young and with so many gifts. I am new here. I have three days sober. I too have had spiritual experiences where there was just NO question God was trying to reach me, teach me and show me the way. My last drunk was horrible physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. For three days after the binge(saying I
ll just have one) I felt despairing, I felt so bad about who I had become in the last four years......I do not ever want to drink again...God help me to never!!!! Thank you all for your posts! Peace

Most people who die due to alcoholism do not die directly due to alcoholism (e.g. overdose), per se, but due to indirect reasons. It's such an underreported cause of death...

The one time I was taken to the ER (by a friend) for drinking I had a BAC of 0.313 -- I'm sure I was way over that many times when drinking at home alone (and mixing it with OtC sleeping pills). A good reminder of how lucky and grateful I am to still be alive.
