twilight zone

Hey my friends...Its rainy and blah here where I live so watchin some tv and I just saw an episode of the twilight zone about an alcoholic who was just about to loose his family due to him always being at his local bar. There he was at his fav tavern trying to light up a cigg when an elderly gentleman handed him a book of matches written on was the elderly man's address and a claim he has acure for drunkerdness. At this point I thought what a cool idea!!!! It turned out It was a pill with a worm larva and the more he drank and never felt a hint of a buzz, the bigger the worm got. The elderly man told the alcoholic he has to starve the worm into submission but it will always be there.....sound familiar....When the man was doubled over in pain because he was detoxing and his worm was hungry I thought to myself that would be horrific if I didnt have my own choice of to drink or not. Ive been sober over a year now but when I was active and sick that was my only relief for a little while anyway. My point is I dont think it would feel right if someone else did it for us.....thanks

I'm reminded of the saying "only you can do it, but you can't do it alone". And thank God for that!

You're perhaps addressing the biggest Twilight Zone fan there is. While don't rate the 80s series much I know the episode you refer to is The Hellgrammite Method. The Hellgrammite is factual but it cannot do any of the things in that episode (no surprise there).

It's a great episode though and it portrays well the struggle some go through.

Heather...

I've seen posts talking about lizards and beast but the worm idea is news to me....

Good to see you again...

I haven't seen many of the 80's series eps but I have heard of addiction being likened to "feeding the worm" before.

I also wanted to mention I am a huge fan of the original series too! I can't wait for the new years eve marathon. Rod Serling was an awesome person.
