When you finally get sober it doesn't make since, but when you're stuck in the middle of it the choices you make seem like rational ones. Sometimes I think that the more sober time you get, the more you forget what it was truly like. That's why I think it's sometimes easier for a newly sober person to relate to someone who has maybe 90 days. They were just there, so they have more in common. Not sure, but that's just the way it seems sometimes.

I think it's better for someone counting days to have a sponsor with around a year certainly. The person who helped me get sober was a woman with 18 years, but she was someone I identified with closely. It wasn't the amount of time she had, it was similar emotional problems.
