Firstly, as a prescriptive program it is only natural that AA would characterize alcoholics a certain way. To varying degrees the same would be true about any prescriptive program. With that said, I understand how someone who isn't an "AA" type of alcoholic could get tired of being slapped with AA's version.

Secondly, the sometimes-thinly-veiled-sometimes-not program bashing is becoming old, old, old. It's rather unfortunate those of you who just can't help yourselves are giving our poor forum leaders such a workout as of late.

Anyone wishing to take shots at a recovery program should go somewhere that isn't loaded w/lurkers who can latch onto this negative crap as justification to NOT pursue recovery.

Hmm...
active alcoholics do tend to keep the focus on themselves and their booze.

The point of recovery is to change both....IMO...

Wishing y'all the peace and joy of a sucessful recovery.

By the time Bill W started AA, he had zero friends left in the stock market. He had burned all of his bridges in that arena. He was neither rich nor powerful.

And yet here I am, sober after all this time, 80-ish days.

So whatever traits are insisted upon or not insisted upon, at the end of the day, I also sense a lot of 'program' bashing by people using mixed/other modes of recovery. And a lot of this is not just 'thinly veiled' but put in terms of, 'Well, you only have this...", or, "Well, you always act like this..." And so on, and so on, which seems a lot like the behavior of resentment and anger. As this is a forum to discuss alcoholism in general, I did find it curious that AA sees alcoholics just one way, and thought it would be helpful to mention, as everyone may not be aware of it.

But my main point: Non AA approaches get bashed right and left, and it is generally OK for this to happen; it is all but routine. But say too much negative about AA, and you get shot down, just like that. Just Sayin'.

ooops, double posted...brower is freezing up, here, on Chrome. Must be the ghost of Steve Jobs

But the thinly veiled 'active alcoholic' accusations are also not very nice, now that I ponder them.

This is what drives a lot of folks away from both recovery, and from AA...

Here is our SR Rule 4....
4. No Flaming: Posting of any content with the intention of disrupting the forum or inflaming members-be it on someone's person, religious beliefs, race, national background, sexual orientation, or recovery program. This includes flaming, flame baiting, registration of multiple accounts or impersonation of another member. Do not Harass, threaten, embarrass or cause distress or discomfort upon another Online Forum participant. This includes flaming on our forums or other public forums.

No posts that attack, insult, "flame", defame, or abuse members or non-members. Respect other members of the community and don’t belittle, make fun of, or insult another member or non-member. Decisions about health and recovery are highly personal, individual choices. "Flaming" and insults, however, will not be tolerated. Agree to disagree. This applies to both the forums and chat.

Ignore bothersome members. If there is someone on the forum that bothers you, select the Ignore option on the drop down menu under their name on the post. You won't see any posts from this member again.
If you find this too restrictive SR is not the site for you. This flameing will stop
. Check your PM box for my decision please.
