Thumbs down When things seem like crud...

Don't you hate when you feel so bad the things you do to make things better/easier to get through don't work? Sigh.

I had a professor once tell me that you can choose your own feelings, and in most cases how you feel about a situation won't change that situation. This has helped me out a lot, especially when I'm feeling very stressed. I remind myself that there's nothing I can do to change the situation but I can change how I feel about it. Perception is reality, feelings are just feelings. Of course this is so much easier to say than to do, but it's helped me out so much in my life.

I hope you're doing better since you posted this message.

I'm not sure you can always control how you feel. You can control how you VIEW things, and that often changes the way you feel. But it can be difficult and it takes effort. And to keep trying if you fail.

No, no of course you can't! But it helps sometimes to be aware. I've had some wicked panic attacks that I definitely could not control, I didn't even know what they were when I started having them, sometimes emotions are chemical (hormonal), but for myself, I do try to control what I can when I start having feelings that I know are going to be harmful to myself or someone else. But you're right, it's about how you view the situation, that's how you change how you feel.

For instance, right now instead of feeling like I gave something up that I really loved (beer), I see it as gaining a life that I love even more.
