No Boleo, I'm just a simple (need to work-non-effort-work on this) student. I would like to see you share more of what you have developed as a way of life.

It just depends on the person. AA has worked for many people. The statistical effectiveness of the Twelve Steps is widely debated. I'd put it at around 50%. It's just not for me. I view AA as a form of Groupthink. I don't do well with "one-size-fits-all" systems like that. The other problem I have with AA is there are a lot of people at the meetings who do not want to be there. They are only there because of court order. Also, there are a lot of people who show up drunk. That said, I would try AA but only if I was out of options.
But I'm only on Day 7 so what do I know? Here's what I know: I quit cocaine five years ago without any group meetings or sponsors. I was my own sponsor and that worked well for me. I'm gonna try that on booze, for now. I've been reading old SR threads for a few hours a day. That helps a lot. Plus huge amounts of physical exercise. And I watched the "Rain in my Heart" documentary last night, scary stuff. Day 7 for me is pretty good. I'm optimistic. I was coming off a fifth of vodka per day habit.
Stay sober everybody. You are helping me every single day.

If you are going to AA to find out if you are an Alcoholic, it is not for you.
I disgree. I needed to hear the stories and shares of other alcoholics and identify with them in order to find out for sure that I was an alcoholic. Back then I pretty much new I was one but still was in denial to a point. I doubt I would have come to the realization so quickly if I hadnt gone to AA. SoberNVa, you are absolutely correct. Almost immediately after writing that, I wanted to come back and modify. Just couldn't get back to a computer til now. I'm afraid to type what I meant because my head is spinning and it most likely won't make sence. lol. But, you put it nicely so I'll just hijack what you said!!!

I went to AA for the first time this week, and i'd have to say it sucks....
I'm not a hardcore alcoholic i just drink a bit too much.
I would come out of AA so bored that I would want to drink.
It was all old men with no front teeth...guys with red faces..
At the end of the day it's only you that can control your own drinking AA aint gonna do **** IMO.
