today is day six of not drinking. i feel the opposite though. i am extremely fatigued throughout the day. next to no energy. and am having an absolute terrible time falling asleep. anxiety and just my thoughts are racing and cant seem to wake up in the morning. i feel like my body is just paralyzed with exhaustion. how can this be? i dont know... this is just an everyday battle it seems. finding energy and motivation is very difficult.

Question Re:Sleeping patterns

Congratulations on 6 days!
Great advice...I know it will help me as well. Thanks again...

I'm happy that you're taking control of this before it got to where most of us did! Congrats!

I think almost every alcoholic has sleeping problems when quitting. Melatonin has been very useful for me.

I used to drink 6-8 pints of beer, three or four times a week. If you go to bed always at the same hour and wake up at the same hour, the problem will disappear soon.

Day 18, 11 hours, 55 minutes. Doing well. The anxiety/excitement upon waking has returned a little bit after getting better. I think it's just my body trying to make sure that I am still alcohol-free? lol. What I mean is, usually after a week or so off, and I feel "better" (from the hangover, not "better" as in sober) I go and drink some beer and restart the whole process. Just stopping in.

Thanks!

21 days, 12 hours and some minutes... 3 weeks. A few evenings ago I had a dream that I drank beer and when I first woke up I thought I was hungover... until I realized it was a dream. Since then, sleeping quite well, seem to be having vivid dreams, not about drinking, but about random things. When I wake up in the mornings, it's still a bit rough to get going, but not filled with the anxiety/excitement that I spoke of earlier in the process.

I think this all means that I am beginning to sleep the way I should and am getting used to the new process. Anyone else been on the same boat?

Thanks!

I had drink-dreams for months. Would wake up certain I'd been drinking and As terrified as hell that I'd messed up.

I say months, might have been as long as the first two months.

They go away after a while. Vitamin B was a life saver in the first few months that seemed to help.

It does take a while to find and learn your natural sleep pattern. It's like getting a new head, you have to find the new controlls!

I've been taking a multivitamin once a day for years (while drinking and while not) which has B Vitamins. Do you think that should that be sufficient?

Thanks!

Thanks for the link, Carol. Day 22, 14 hours. Waking is still feeling sort of rough.. but, am now having moments of clarity, like I feel "nearly normal" for 20-30 minutes while busy, but when I get to relax, or lazy, it's sort of feeling different... Drinking coffee in the morning, caffeine free sodas, water, juice during the day. Eating regularly, taking a multivitamin. Just checking in.

Thanks!

Coming up for a month now… how brilliant is that! You have good days and bad days - that’s just the way things are. I’m sure I remember someone telling me you I should expect to go as many months as the number of years I’d been seriously blotto for before the effects would be just about gone.

I remember working that out at 2 years. Was a bit of a shock was that but it turned out to be about right.

Keep busy, you’re doing good.

24 Days, 19 Hours. Still rollin' - Tonight I feel a bit antsy, lots of energy, head is feeling clearer/lighter. Drank some orange juice tonight and a Vitamin Water Revive earlier.

28 days, 10 hours. Nearing 30.... yesterday it was killer hot out, all good... gave my mother a ride (doesn't drive) and she says as we drive by a pizza joint: "It's hot today, wouldn't you like an ice cold beer today? That would taste so good!" - I said, "no thanks!" - Beyond that I've had no cravings, etc. Just checking in!
