Anyone in the UK with Private Medical cover?
I just wondered if your treatment, whether it be inpatient or outpatient has been covered to treat your alcoholism?
I don't think it would but I want to check before I go to the Dr's later today

I have never thought to ask this, as I keep my problems very private and I don't trust the British health database systems, and especially the people who administer them, to keep this kind of info fully confidential.
One rather obvious response though: your insurance docs will describe the nature of medical needs covered in very fine detail - that's the only definitive source of info, as there are important differences between companies and their policies.
Ultimately, all such financial service providers are b*stards, looking to avoid paying out where ever possible! (Me, cynical? surely not!!)

In Ireland, private insurance covers inpatient rehab and apparently, there are social welfare grants for rehab too.
I took the 6 grand+/- that inpatient would have cost and stayed off work. I went to AA and am sober 7 months. I had moved back from New York and was between jobs at the time. Could have gone to work, figured my life was more important. Best decision ever. If you have a stable job, maybe you could take a LOA for a couple of months.
Very different views on rehab here. Some people swear by it, others put it down as a complete waste. Different horses for courses, I guess.
BUPA is available in Ireland so I presume it would cover you.
Re confidentiality, if you go in and pay cash and use a pseudonym and don't meet Aunty Molly's hairdresser's niece, you should be fairly guaranteed anonymity.

I am in the UK and will not even go and see my doc and tell him I have been alcoholic since i know full well if I later get sick with anything which requires my life insurance or (hopefully less severe) sickness benefit to payout, the first thing they do is check your medical records and my guess would be that given they are all similar, they would attribute just about any illness to my alcholism...
Cynical? Me either... ahem

My insurance company are considering covering this at the moment, they have to pass it to their clinical team to make a decision. I'll update this thread once I know, just in case anyone is in a similar position

I don't fit the topic you asked about but...I never went into any treatment facility .....
Instead I went directly to AA and have stayed for 22 years of continious sobriety..
I'm not knocking any way you want to find a healthy future..offering only my successful experience. It will take change and action any way you go.
