The End of the World... would you?
LOVE this..so true!
As for me, no thanks. I know what a drunken fool I become and the last thing I would want is to have that on me for eternity...lol.
On a side note, it's really sad all the money being spent on this when we still have world hunger, poor education, disease and illness...so many other things this money could have been put towards...that is the real tragedy

If it was the end of the world and I decided to drink I would end up being selfish and spending my last moments in the bottle. I would rather be sober and spend those moments with my family, clear headed and open minded.
Nope, sure wouldnt drink. That day is today, and all Im doing is sipping on some tea and making some homemade chicken soup from scratch. Mmmmmm it seems awesome! Way better that the old lingering alcohol smell that used to hang around here

Today I realize my sobriety is a gift. Perhaps the most important gift I will ever receive. I would never let death take it away from me.
Well, we are all still here (I think!), and I'm going to make a wild guess that nobody bought the idea that today was the "end of the world". I'm coming up on 200 days sober myself, and I'm grateful to be here.
Thanks for all who humored me or gave their thoughts on the silliness.

You know, we had this very topic at an AA meeting last week, and the results of our very informal poll were about what they are here - somewhere in the neighborhood of half of each, yes and no.
My answer to this actually came from my uncle who died of cancer, after having been sober for something like 25 years - on the day he died, he was in terrible pain, and my aunt asked him if he wanted a drink. He said, "no, when I meet my Higher Power, I want to be sober."
I figure I'd like that, too - so I think I'll pass on the drink, end of the world or not.

It's hard to believe that one guy can take verses from a bible write his own book then say that their God will save the followers if they have faith and convince thousands of people if they spread the word they will be saved and go to heaven while everyone else who doesn't believe is doomed to apocalyptic hell.
It's amazing what people will believe...but I still wouldn't drink over it.

OK, just a super-silly question...
Suppose you/we really DID know tomorrow was the end of the world... would you have a drink?
Everything about my recovery screams "no", but I really do wonder. I don't know that I wouldn't. I'd like to say I know I would not, but toasting the apocalypse seems strangely appropriate.
