A warning to all.
A warning to all.
Some of you probably know that the alcohol withdrawal seizures I had ended up causing me a badly fractured shoulder.
Well I had to have a metal plate and pins put in it during a 5 hour operation and have been to the hospital regularly since for x-rays etc.
Today I went and the x-ray was not good at all.
The plate has slipped, the shoulder is no longer rounded and one of the pins has pushed through and is rubbing against bone.
Basically I have to have more surgery ASAP, have all the metal taken out and if it hasn't healed well enough I'll need a full shoulder replacement.
And i'm only 30.
So bascially I'm going to have a life long reminder of my alcoholism. I'm trying to look at it as some kind of bonus in a positive way - like everytime I feel like drinking I just have to lift my left arm and realise it only goes up a little bit!

20 yrs ago I hit a concret culvert sitting on top
the ground in what may have been in a blackout
or wheels hitting a 2 ft notch cut out in the road
causing me to fly off the road. It took 3 months
for me to heal nicely after they removed my punctured
spleen so i wouldnt bleed to death. That was Feb 1990.
Aug. 1990 i tried to end my misery with pills and family
stepped in with an intervention sending me to rehab
where I completed a 28 day program.
2 yrs ago I had an exray to determine why I was having
pain when I walked. Come to find out, my hip was damaged
in that accident and over the yrs the way I was walking made
the injury come back where I had to have full hip replacement.
I knew i was banged up pretty badly where I had to stay in
the hospital for 10 day with numerous broken ribs, contusion,
etc, but didnt think that accident would come back yrs later
to haunt me.
Anyway....our drinking or drug history's surely take a toll
on us mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually. It puts
our bodies thru the wringer, battered, abused, bruised......
I hope you have sucessfull surgery and live to enjoy life in
recovery pain free.

One positive spin is..that you are ONLY 30 and will heal quickly compared to if you found this out in your 50s...I wish you well. No matter what the age surgery is never fun. I wish you a speedy recovery!!
