hey, new here.

not sure exactly where to post this, so sorry if this is in the wrong area!

i've lurked around on these forums for a bit, but just joined now for the first time. i guess i was shy/nervous about joining up over the internet/keeping a low-profile in some cases perhaps.

i'm 24, from philadelphia....i decided to sober my life up June 15th,2010 (when the clock strikes midnight tonight I got myself eleven months! i found that a good way to join/start up on this site).

maybe it is said a lot and played out or such, but point blank, why i joined? even though eleven months is a pretty solid time (atleast to me without being too cocky), i've pretty much lost every single 'friend' i ever had. i only had beer buddies/drinking partners. i tried to hang on to a few as much as i could. with the exceptions of my 2 brothers and the fiancee of one, I pretty much am alone 99% of my life anymore...(not counting my dog/cat!haha). it doesn't help i'm insanely shy/quiet to begin with, the whole recovery thing added on to it with nerves and such (i deal with some depression problems on top of the recovery, but i personally feel that goes without saying). i don't attend meetings (i did in the earlier stages, but wasn't my thing).

so yeah...in a nutshell, i guess you could say i'm here to try and mingle/talk to some people. get conversation going. i'm beyond happy and proud to be sober, and can't even tell you the last time i even WANTED or THOUGHT about doing something stupid regarding picking up a bottle...but i would be lying if i said i wasn't hurting/feeling alone and the likes...heres hoping this forum can help that out a bit,who knows? glad to be here. best of luck to everybody. for now, i just wanted to introduce myself a bit.

Congratulations man, 11 months is a great feat of accomplishment, well done.

You will most definitely find people on here in which you can always chat with, and always expect a reply, I've only recently joined and can already attest to that.

Welcome to SR, and cant wait until I can read that you've hit your year mark, the road of recovery can be rocky, but damn, it feels so great at times when you know you're a step ahead of your demons. Great job.

Yeah, to add in, this is my 2nd serious/legit go at staying sober...I went nine months first time around... as odd as it sounds, i'm almost glad to have stumbled/screwed up my first time around because it feels a lot more rewarding to know i'm not anymore...

Congrats. Keep the rest of us posted on HOW great it feels... and the accomplishments of your life. With 5 days in -- I already have clarity to push my projects forward. A big accomplishment for me!

Welcome!

Joining Sober Recovery with 11 months of sobriety is pretty amazing. When I joined I probably had about 11 hours.

What an inspiration, and an awsome first post! It's always good to have some people to talk and share with, and I think you found the right place to come to. As long as you stay true to yourself, keep the advice that works and throw away the negative (there will always be a little), Wow! I can't believe you joined after such a long stretch...but that is GREAT, and you have already made one person (ME) have reason to believe that there are better things ahead and lots of sober, FUN, life to live.
I can't post as much as I would like, due to work, but I do get on here as much as I can. Just reading helps me relate and use others experiences to move forward in a positive direction. I have been posting, when I can, and haven't recieved much feedback except when I first came on, but that's ok. I'll just use the advice that others get to help me along. You do the same. If you're able to get on a lot, you will get more comments/feedback. Don't let the one-sided people mess with you. Just believe in yourself and do what works for YOU!

YAY for YOU!
Your friend,
Christy (sanddollar)
