My favorite spiritual books

I thought about posting in the spiritual section, but wanted more input from everyone......
If you have favorite books on spirituality (or even self-help), I'd love to hear them.

Here's my favs:

1.A Course in Miracles (divine source)
2.Conversations with God (lots of books in the series by Neale Donald Walsh - his conversations with God)
3.Anything by Wayne Dyer
4.Anything by Eckhart Tolle
5.Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramaranda Yogananda
6.Emmauel's Book, (three in series)
7.Disappearance of the Universe, Gary Renard

Thanks guys!!!!

Artsoul, the first four you posted are my staples, the last three I have not heard of, and am Amazoning right now, so THANK YOU! I don't have much to add; however, I did enjoy Peace Pilgrims little book, PEACE PILGRIM-HER LIFE AND WORK IN HER OWN WORDS.

The ones on my list don't fall under "self-help," probably more philosophy or literature, such as anything by Hermann Hesse, but I recall this one, which may fit the bill:

"The Spirituality of Imperfection: Storytelling and the Search for Meaning" by Ernest Kurtz and Katherine Ketcham

Note that it does have somewhat of an AA slant, since Kurtz wrote "Not-God: A History of Alcoholics Anonymous" and Ketcham was co-author of "Under the Influence" and "Beyond the Influence," but it is a bit broader in scope.

Memoirs have been helpful to me. I loved Carolyn Knapp's Drinking a Love Story. Hated Mommy Doesn't Drink Here Anymore by Rachael something. She was so damn whiney and she had to put her two cents in politically at the end. It just seemed out of place. The design of the book was odd too.

Sober For Good is a really good book too. Forget who the author of that book is.

"The Seat of the Soul" by Gary Zukav

Gary Zukav teaches that we are spiritual beings first, human beings second. So, we need to align our personality with our soul's purpose and that's how we grow spiritually. This was what I needed to begin recovery.

And, I love, love, love Caroline Knapp and everything that she wrote.

I could be here all night writing down my favorite spiritual books. In a nutshell,
Anything by Thomas Merton
Anything by Eckhart Tolle
Anything by Thich Naht Hahn
Kevin Griffin's two books

Oh and listen carefully..."Wherever You Go There You Are", by Jon Kabat Zihn. You will not find a better book on mindfulness and meditation, ANYWHERE.

I have been looking for a thread like this! Thank you!

Others on this site have spoken of "When You Love Yourself Enough" while it isn't a spiritual book per se, it's a good one, anyway.

Thanks again for the thread....and everyone for all the ideas. I'm going to Amazon!

When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron. Excellent book (Buddhist in flavor) on acceptance, coping, etc...

My AA Sponsor gave me a book called "The Good Book & The Big Book" by Dick B. published by Paradise Research Publications. It looks at AA history in terms of the Bible. It also points out that the Biblical book of James is a core AA text so I've asked my pastor to lend me some other material to read about James and I will use that as the basis of prayer and Bible study for the next few weeks.

Another one, "Mindfulness In Plain English" by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana. This book is exactly what the title says. A nuts and bolts guide to meditation in plain English, not flowery language.

The Bible...plain and simple. Or is it?
