The progression of alcoholism

When water drains out of a bathtub it spins faster and faster as the tub empties. That's my visual image of alcohol progression.

I wrote that a couple of years ago and forgot I did. I found it today when I was looking through some old journal stuff. It reminds me of where I will be if I pick up again, going down the drain in a hurry!

I'm feeling it! My mom told me once that I used to have a fear of getting sucked down the tub drain...... (there's a little song we used to sing when I was a child about a girl named Alice who went down the drain and I guess I was young enough to think it was possible!)

I wonder if that was an omen...... haha!

I have often thought of alcoholism as circling the drain. Describes it perfectly!

Water spins going down a toilet too...where my life was going before I quit drinking!

You are right. Or the Pitcher Plant (as Allen Carr's book puts it for the fly who can't get out).

Great comparison!

Hi Zebra-

Spot on and that was exactly my experience in those last few years/months of drinking. It was scary.

It definitely pays off to know where you've been, to know how far you've come, and to remember where you'll end up..........
