My avatar is about the hope I started feeling when I found this forum..... My life was nothing if not shades of gray, living under storm clouds. I'm not sure I thought it through like that when I picked it, though. It just spoke to me.

After looking at it days later, I discovered it also reminded my of some of my classes in color theory and application: that colors are brighter when surrounded by large areas of dull or neutral colors....... so maybe that's a metaphor for how bright sobriety is after looking at life through a bottle.......

So much fun reading these. Zube - your post (and newwings') just about made my eyes water a little!

This is a picture of Niagara Falls. It reminds me of the beauty and great time I experienced last August while sober

It's the man in the maze and its our seal (O'odham)

"According to O'odham oral history, the labyrinth design depicts experiences and choices we make in our journey through life. In the middle of the "maze", a person finds their dreams and goals. When one reaches the center, we have one final opportunity (the last turn in the design) to look back upon our choices and path, before the Sun God greets us, blesses us and passes us into the next world."

I was told by an elder that it also depicts many of the ups and downs we encounter in our life.

When I saw the wire around the hands with the straight edge crosses I thought it could mean freedom from alcohol and drugs that destroys peoples lives and maybe even something to do with prison.

Dee, I love your new avatar! I remember these particular muppets as being very funny many years ago. Gives me a warm feeling When I first signed on to SR I was unsettled when you changed your avatar (I know, get a life Danae!) but now I have more equilibrium I enjoy seeing with what you come up with.

My avatar reminds me of a wonderful tranquil place. Of course in real life it often wasn't as tranquil as pictured, but still, a good memory.

My avatar is a picture of myself at about 5 months sober. Before I used my art and changed it frequently...when I took and edited this photo it reminded me of the poem "Invictus" by Henley...my favorite poem. So that's why I've kept it since.

IMO (which is not how many art critics see Hopper, I don't think ) the woman in this painting is looking out to the world w/serenity and peace, welcoming the morning she sees out the window. I haven't seen the painting IRL so I might feel differently if I knew what it looked like up close. But, that's a feeling I aim to achieve in my recovery and this painting is a reminder of it. And, I'd like my thighs to be so slender, ha!

Nice thread. I was very moved by your original post, Zube.

Wanted to share the Arizona desert landscape with everyone.
Many hiking trails here that look just like this.

Mine is a pictue of Vytautas the Great, a famous ruler of medieval Luthuania. My mother side of the family is Lithuanian, and she is the only one left of her family (that we know of). For me it is a symbol of stength, power, faith/hope and also reminds me of my Uncle, Great Uncle and Grandfather who are no longer with me.
