craving sweets
craving sweets
Before quitting, I rarely ate sweet foods, in fact I didn't really like them. But once I quit I started to develop a taste for them and in the past week or so I've been craving sweets like crazy.
Am I alone in this?
Am I alone in this?
When I quit drinking, for the first two months I ate a large bowl of ice cream with chocolate and peanuts on it every night.....had to have it.
Now going into my 5th month not drinking, I still eat more in general, but the excessive sweet craving is gone.

It happened to me, and I fed that craving a lot the first few failed attempts... I'm not saying eating sweets will lead you to relapse, but this last time I cut out all sweets and caffeine completely.. So instead of craving alcohol, I'd crave something else.. Now I'm tobacco free as well.. I'm 100% natural now and loving it.
When I stopped drinking I gained 10lbs, then lost 20. Sweets are still a big part of my recovery, but I do my best from going through a whole bag of Reeses PB cups in one evening.

On the CBS morning show, they were talking about the dangers of sugar, and how much we were getting in our diet. In a workplace setting, they secretly filmed a big bowl of candy sitting out on the reception desk. It's amazing. People could not control themselves; most stopped and got something. They were powerless over sugar. One person went to the bowl 6 times and when confronted, denied it. Sugar denial?
I know how I would feel if there was a big tub of iced-downed beer at the receptionist's desk. I'll think twice before I put a jar of candy on my desk!

What's annoying about it is that when I was a drinker I NEVER took candy from bowls like that. The only time I ever ate dessert was when my mother-in-law made it because I didn't want to be impolite by refusing.
Now I have something else to work on.
I will not be cutting out caffeine though.

As I read your post I have a 14 oz bag of Starburst jelly beans within arms reach that I am nibbling on. I had a sweet tooth when I drank and have an even bigger one 17 months after my last drink. I'm maybe 5 pounds overweight, eat very healthy otherwise and workout 3-4 times a week but man I am constantly battling to stay away from sweets. If I was told I only had 6 months to live I could put on 100 pounds between now and then no problem.
I had a pretty unhealthy attraction to Sweet Tarts and Club Soda when I first got sober. It was pretty funny, I'd sit down after work just like it was my booze. And if I ran out I'd skulk down to the market to resupply. Thankfully my obsession was lifted after a few months, and now I can enjoy them in moderation.

I feel the same way. I hardly ever ate ice cream before, but now I have to have a bowl w/whipped cream (preferably sprinkled with peanuts) almost every night. I rationalize it has to be better for me than a 12-pack of Bud Light, but yikes, somethings gotta give before I start packing on the pounds!!

Good job on the 51 days Ex. Way to go. I can't compare whether my sweet intake is up ..While drinking I only ate late after getting drunk..but I do really REALLY like Ben and Jerrys Karamel Sutra now.
