Thinking About Admitting Myself To The Hospital?
And, in Pink's case, I'm certain that there are some great facilities right here in central WI for her. You know, it really bothers me when I know that there are people in need of some help. Even if it isn't a dire emergency now, some day it might be. It's best to take care of the problem before it's too late.

Irisheyes, yes the bill will be thousands of dollars not hundreds. However, some hospitals have charity programs that you can ask about and they will cover you. If you are having serious alcohol they will take you because your vitals will be very abnormal. IMO having a proper detox is just as important as rehab/meetings.
Pink, I'm glad to see you are looking into help. It will get better. You seem very depressed, in addition to the alcohol issues. When depression AND alcoholism exist together it becomes very dangerous.

Hi Pink,
I work in an ER and we get psychiatric patients for depression and/or addictions all the time. You don't have to say you are suicidal just to get care. If you just tell them about the seriousness of your depression and addiction you will receive care. However, if you are suicidal you should tell them. In our ER, patients with addictions/depressions will be seen by the ER nurse and doctor. Then the ER will page the on-call psychiatrist to visit the patient (plan on it taking a minimum of several hours for the psychiatrist to get to the ER). While the patient waits for the psychiatrist, the ER can give medications to help mitigate any detox symptoms or anxiety, if necessary. After the psychiatrist visits the patient, they will decided whether or not to admit the patient to the psychiatric floor.
If you decide to go to the ER, bring a bag with some extra clothes and toiletries in case the do decide to admit you.

Pink and Irish, I'm glad you guys are getting ready to do something.
I know it's scary, but believe this: you will be so grateful you did something. I feel so happy and peaceful at night when I tuck my little one into bed. I was terrified to stop drinking—now I shudder at the thought of going back to it. Life is so much better now.

There are free or low cost medical clinics in many cities Irish - and many state governments have programmes as well.
There are a few free (to people in genuine need) or low cost detox centres and rehabs around too - and yes, many of them cater for women with children.
I really encourage you to do some digging....and like Carol says - switch to water
