Support Help?
I joined because my boyfriend of 6 months (and friend of over 2 yrs) has stopped drinking. Which I am so very proud of him. I'm trying to be supportive and I feel I get lost at times. For instance the eating of sweets - constantly and abundantly. He ate 21 large cookies in 1 day along with a tub of icecream and this has been going on for months. Does this stop? I'm worried now for his eating habits and when I bring it up I feel it's just adding more to his burden. I know everyone is different in how they react to sobriety and I want to be supportive - what has helped all of you in terms of loved ones around you? Also, I drink here and there - not in excess but I'll have one or two however I always feel guilty but he says to go ahead, I try to drink wine - which he doesn't like, then I feel a little better. I don't know if this just makes it worse as well? Thanks for your help.. any info would be appreciated as this is all new to me as well.
Welcome to SR. Glad you are here.
My personal experience is that when I quit drinking my body craved sweets. That did ease with time though the longer I stayed sober.
Hang in there I know it can be tough. You might also post in our Families and Friends of Alcoholics section as there are many people there who are in a similar situation as yours.
