Withdrawal

How soon does it start after not having a drink?

It has been 14 hours for me and I am more nervous, nauseous, shaky and sweaty. Does it really star that soon?

Hi and welcome.

It definitely started that soon for me Jako....sooner in fact.

I recommend you see a Dr. Although many people are fine, sometimes detox can be tricky - it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Jaco, for me it started about 8 hours after my last drink. Dee is right about consulting with a Dr. Withdrawal from alcohol can be quite dangerous if not done under medical supervision.

Is it a better option to wean yourself off of alcohol instead of going cold turkey?

Night one...sucked
Night two..a living hell
Day 3...saw my doctor and got on some meds to help with the detox.

Wished that I would have seen my doctor before night one and two.

Mine started (every day, in fact) about five or six hours after my last drink.

See a doctor if you get any scary symptoms.

Read about alcohol withdrawal symptoms online. It depends on how much you have to detox and, if you are shaking, then you need to see a doctor. They have seen this before so don't be afraid to reach out. It is so much better to get sober with other people.

My heart goes out to you. But withdrawl without medical supervision can be extremely dangerous. Please go see your Dr. to help you through this and keep yourself hydrated.Keep posting, there's a lot of support here.

I got to the point where I was going through mini withdrawals daily if I did not drink. The more I drank to keep the demons away the worse it got for me, final one day I realized it was me or the booze, I'm glad I made the choice I did. It's not easy and I don't think anyone here will tell you it is but it is possible and does get better.

To answer your second question, no, weaning has a very poor success rate.
