Bought booze - Zero desire

When I was downtown buying some spicy tomato juice to drink at a friends birthday party, my wife phoned and asked if I could go to the liquor store to buy her a bottle of wine. She asked if I was okay with that, because she didn't want me to do it if it was going to make me uncomfortable. Well, I went in there for the first time in 8.5 months and felt absolutely zero desire to drink. Zilch. Nada. Nothing

The party started at 3:30 in the afternoon, then went through dinner, and I bailed at 9:30 because I have to go to work tomorrow. (Nobody was going crazy as they're all "normies" and make their drinks last 30 minutes or more). At the party I also had zero desire to drink even though there were bottles everywhere.

I never thought I would ever see this day...I can still remember how scared I was contemplating the impossibility of going a week without a drink. I have such a feeling of lightness, of relief, of freedom...I can't quite explain it.

Thought I would share this moment with those who really want to be free of alcohol's grip, but don't know if it's possible. Well, it is, and it feels great!

Murray

I agree - the feeling of freedom is amazing. I never thought I could get there either.

I'm so happy for you!

(((Murray))) - what an awesome post! I'm sure you've helped many people who are struggling with the same thoughts you had, see that it really can happen...we can be confronted with our DOC and have absolutely no desire to imbibe

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Yes, my first really drunken party attended sober was a double celebration for me...because I could act the fool along with everyone else and also that I didn't need to drink any of that nasty alcohol to do it! Trick is to keep a soft drink in your hand. People think you're drinking too.

Hey, good for you. Thank God you were where you were though. I'm telling you: There's nothing worse than being sober around a bunch of falling down drunks. GOD, it's annoying! I've been a designated driver before, and it's terrible sometimes. But I'm really glad you weren't feeling the desire to drink. And what that tells me, is that you were in a good frame of mind, and in good spirit. If you keep that up, you shouldn't ever have to drink again.

I agree with this to a certain extent. Normally I drink water tho, just in case some sick ******* decides it would be "funny" to put booze in my drink.

No problem

Because I'm flying solo on my path to sobriety, I can say with 99.99999% certainty that I couldn't have made it this far without SR and the positive experiences shared here. Especially in early recovery it was invaluable to read of peoples successes. We can do this! We can beat this thing!!!

Way to go! I feel the same way. Alcohol just has no hold over me anymore. If you would've told me 2 years ago that I'd ever feel this way, I'd have said you were crazy

Way to go Murray! I am only 32 days sober but recently bought a bottle of wine as a gift for some friends. I felt no cravings or desire to drink while in the liquor store, because I know that I will never drink again. Last week I joined some friends for drinks at a local bar and I ordered only ginger ale and cranberry juice. I felt fine and no desire to drink, because I know I can never have just 1 or 2. It's a great feeling, isn't it?

Good job, Murray -
First, let me say that I'm proud of you and that you've discovered your "bliss" feeling in being around alcohol without it calling your name. As someone else remarked, you are in fit spiritual condition, which takes the power out of the alcohol thing.

Second - figure out what gets you in fit spiritual condition and HOLD ONTO THAT SUCKER! Whatever you're doing right, keep doing it, and keep your bliss. Alcohol is a sneaky b*****d and will kick your butt if you let your guard down.

Hugs!
