First meeting.
First meeting.
There is an AA meeting at a church called Grace Presbyterian tomorrow at around the time that I get off of work. If I go, it will be my first meeting, I'm not sure what to expect...
I looked for one that is for "beginners" and also one that is "closed." The reason that I wanted one that is closed is so that there are less people there. I tend to get pretty nervous in a crowd or even with a few people.
Will the group expect me to talk? What kinds of things will we talk about? How long do the beginners meetings usually last?
Obviously I'm so curious!
Thanks to all that can help!

Here's a very helpful (and accurate) link about what to expect at your first AA meeting. I think it addresses most of your questions (and probably some you never thought to ask!).

Don't be put off because the address is a church...
that only means the AA group rents the space from them
has absolutely nothing to do with religion.
I did avoid church meetings early on...because I did not know that
and could not find one held in my choice of religion .
I'm so please you will go.....

I was a nervous wreck at my first one - three weeks ago, but I have never felt more welcomed anywhere in my life - I'm still going to that one and different ones as well during the week, and I still feel like the most important person there - but everybody does. That's the beauty of it. I fought and fought against AA for years and never thought I'd see myself in a meeting, let alone beginning the 'journey' - I am so gald i did!
