Hi Hendrix-

For us alcoholics, there is no good way or reason to get drunk.

Do something, anything, everything different.

I, simply, had to change who I was or the same me will drink again, and again, and again.

Maybe this is true with you too?

Kjell~

Sounds like you didn't even enjoy it. Hold on to that thought. I'm glad you came right back here.

This could be a good thing if you really want to quit?

I would recomend journaling or something to remember how you are feeling now for when you have the craving to drink again. Hope you feel better!!

Its funny to look back at drinking patterns of an alcoholic, i.e. me...i had a few heavy drinking buddies and if you told them you felt bad for drinking they would not understand at all...good sign of alcoholism IMO if you feel guilty, remorseful and generally bad about the actual action of taking a drink...

I drank 12-18 beers a day, EVERY day for 10 years. I sometimes felt bad, especially towards the end. I stopped drinking 21 months ago. I don't feel bad any more. You CAN do this!

Man that is a lot to drink everyday for 10 years! Wow. I used to drink that much too but no on an everyday basis. Hell, there were times when I drank an entire 24 pack in one night!!!

I have to ask you one question about that kind of beer consumption though? Did you grow a beer gut or gain a lot of weight? I know I did back in the day when I was younger and drank every other day.

I'm sure pounding back 12 beers seemed like a good idea at the time but doesn't it now seem kinda pointless?

My friend used to drink like that. One day, he went to his office as usual and had an alcohol-related brain aneurism. Boom! Blood everywhere. 42 years old, dead.

Glad you are posting and making it a new day. I spent years doing that.....finally I had enough and got help.

I wouldn't have what I have in life if I kept on doing the same ole routine.

Keep moving forward and make this your focus. You can do it.

Yeah, I grew a pretty large beer gut. I'm a pretty big guy (6'2") and went from 200 to 300 pounds in those 10 years. Since I quit, I've lost about 50 pounds and the gut is slowly, but surely shrinking. Just one more benefit of being sober

WOW! Thanks so much for that visual It's hearing stories like that one that make me glad I quit when I did.

I used to drink about 7-10 beers a day and on weekends i'd throw in a couple shots of jameson or jack daniels. I'm a female, 5'7" and weigh 135. When I started drinking at age 21 I was 115 pounds, I had a healthy eating habit and worked out regularly. I gained, no kidding, 45 pounds in my first year of drinking. My eating habits went down the drain, I barely ate at all, I was always too sick/hungover. I still managed to gain all that damn weight though.
I slowed it down at age 24 and went back down in weight, started eating right again. Now I'm at 135 and don't drink at all, I wonder if it'll go down anymore.

Don't beat yourself up when you relapse. It just makes it more likely you will relapse again tomorrow.

You are trying. Most drunks aren't. Don't let go of that.

There is a reason we are all here, we can't just have one.

I've been trying to moderate my drinking since my 20s, and I'm now in my mid 40s.
I finally came to the realization 6 days ago that abstinence is the only way. I always thought I could moderate but after trying that for 2 decades my brain has has finally processed that is not possible. (Yeah I'm a bit slow sometimes :-))

It feels good to wake up without the headache, the dull feeling, the guilt, the remorse. I was beating myself up and yet I continued. Who does that? Social drinkers don't do that. But alcoholics do.
