Anything by Adele..because she is the anti-Amy Winehouse.

I always found the song "Rehab" incredibly disturbing even whilst drinking. Although I did love her voice and early stuff.

I used to eat peoples roses when walking home drunk some times, when I got to AA, I heard someone say they got sober and were then able to smell the roses.
The song that came to mind was,
"Tip Toe through the Tulips", by Tiny Tim.

"Pinch Me" from Bare Naked Ladies and I always love "What a Good Boy"-that's a song that may give you inspration to stay sober if I have ever heard one...

I don't know if that band has a history of alcohol abuse but they really nail it on those two and of course everyones perceptions are not going to be the same...but to me they are very personal. And they could have been co-written, etc, you know...

Social Distortion - Ball and Chain. Lyrics below are genius and tell a powerfull story:

Well it's been ten years and a thousand tears
And look at the mess I'm in
A broken nose and a broken heart,
An empty bottle of gin
Well I sit and I pray
In my broken down Chevrolet
While I'm singin' to myself
There's got to be another way

[Chorus:]
Take away, take away
Take away this ball and chain
Well I'm lonely and I'm tired
And I can't take any more pain
Take away, take away
Never to return again
Take away, take away
Take away
Take away this ball and chain

Well I've searched and I've searched
To find the perfect life
A brand new car and a brand new suit
I even got me a little wife
But wherever I have gone
I was sure to find myself there
You can run all your life
But not go anywhere

[Chorus:]
Take away, take away
Take away this ball and chain
Well I'm sick and I'm tired
And I can't take any more pain
Take away, take away
Never to return again
Take away, take away
Take away
Take away this ball and chain

Well I'll pass the bar on the way
To my dingy hotel room
I spent all my money
I've been drinkin' since half past noon
Well I'll wake there in the mornin'
Or maybe in the county jail
Times are hard getting harder
I'm born to lose and destined to fail

[Chorus:]
Take away, take away
Take away this ball and chain
Well I'm lonely and I'm tired
And I can't take any more pain
Take away, take away
Never to return again
Take away, take away
Take away
Take away this ball and chain

I don't think I actually have one that fits the description - that inspired me to stay sober.

I have chatted here before about songs that fit into the general topic of past drinking or current sobriety. Some people refer to certain songs as their personal anthem. The one that I think of as personal song is Behind the Ritual (Van Morrison). Sorry if some people are seeing me mention this for the tenth time. YouTube - Van Morrison Behind The Ritual.avi . There's something about the song that made me feel glad when I first heard it (only a few days into sobriety), that the drinking was over and I could look back and see it getting further behind in the distance. I play it once in a while when I want to pay myself some credit and need to feel good about myself.

LaFemme - I just got to know Adele very recently, but only Someone Like You. I am ASTOUNDED by that girl. Since I have only listened to that one song thus far, I don't see the music tapping into that corner of my life; just "past love" and all that stuff that feels like an anvil dropping on you.

Now that I've already posted my answer, I wonder if I just contradicted myself. Maybe I defined the inspiration to the song after all, I don't know.

Another thing is that in the months leading up to my quitting, when there had been somewhat of a spike in volume, I suddenly got interested in Michael Jackson (he had died). I hadn't been a fan. The sleeping issue and questions about his drug use was compelling. So one of the songs I accumulated, while I was exploring al this Michael Jackson stuff I had ignored for years, was Morphine. I remember thinking "that's him, not me" (the way some of us think, "That's drugs, not drinking"); and later changing my thinking weeks later (yes, maybe it WAS me). So maybe there was an inspiration inside all of that too.
