So tonight...

...I'm meeting an acquaintance from out of town. He's a beer conniseur and is hoping I can show him some of Seattle's finest.

I don't want to impose my sobriety on the guy and want to be a good host, so I'm going to venture out to a brewpub. This will be the first time I've been in a full-on bar since quitting.

I'm feeling pretty good about it and don't plan on staying all that long. And I certainly don't plan on drinking. Should be an interesting experiment. But anyway wish me luck.

Do you have an exit strategy in case you get too tempted? I am assuming your friend knows you no longer drink...

I'll be sending positive vibes from the east coast. Let us know how it goes.

Much love.

Sending you positive energy!! I spent a good 4 hours in a bar last night- first time, possibly ever, I have been in a bar and *not* had a drink. I will admit it was odd. I'm still somewhat ambivalent about the experience itself, but I'm really glad I chose not to drink. You can show your friend a good time and still feel good about yourself and your choices! Good luck!

The first unpleasant thing I noticed about bars
after I quit.....the stench was a big time

Throw in the sloppy loud mouth drinkers
the usual inane laughter ....and deafning noise

no more bar scenes for me..

I prefer to do my hosting in a restaurant
that features fine food.
If you did that...then you could drop the beer-ite off in a brewclub.

Hope all goes well for you and your acquaintance...

You don't have to impose sobriety...if you don't make a big deal about it no one else will either. I worked at a bar and there were alot of people that drank soft drink or even just water.
I'm sending common sense emergy so you don't lose your head. Good Luck!

Good luck, Reset - you can do it! Show your friend some of the sights, then go to a decent place where you can get some appetizers. Unless your friend is an alcoholic, there's a good chance they won't be wanting to drink a lot sitting with a sober person......

It can be very "interesting" to observe people in a bar...... it made me even more determined to stay sober! Let us know how it goes, OK?

You will do fine Reset. I for sure don't seek entertainment at bars..but have had a couple of occasions that I wanted to attend..it worked out fine. These were close friends. As long as they can drink whatever they want ..they don't notice what you are drinking. Well..until they buy you a drink. I had a club soda w/ grapefruit and it was only a buck something so I did get questioned..Had to laugh..I said do you wanna try it? I thought they were gonna blow it all over the bar. I liked it tho!!! Let us know how ya did.

Ate dinner last night at a local bar/grill - good place for a decent burger. Being St Paddy's day, the place was packed wall-to-wall with over-served amateurs. It wasn't fun to watch or listen to.

So glad I'm not "that guy" anymore...

Doh! Shows how much I know, LOL! I assumed it was yesterday cause the place was packed and all the wait staff was wearing green, etc. Not Irish, so I never really pay that much attention anyway.

They started the green beer here last weekend. Will take them a whole week to gag down all the tap beer!

Yeah I started celebrating St. Patties day in January, right after the New Years hang over subsided. What a great idea...green beer, so not only does it taste bad it looks bad too. I think I will stick with a Shamrock Shake this year.

Hey so I got back about an hour ago. Went to this place that had some really, really good beers on tap. I know because I haven't been out of practice for that long. I admit there was only one tiny, fraction of a split second where I thought a beer sounded good, but it passed very quickly and the rest of the time I didn't even think about drinking a beer.

The guy I met asked me what beer I was going to have and I told him that I don't drink any more. He was surprised but didn't ask anything else. I actually wanted to tell him more about it but he seemed kind of uncomfortable with the subject so I didn't go there much.

The cool thing though is that he's a scientist and he explained a lot of concepts to me that I might not have fully grasped while buzzing. So maybe that mental agility that I was looking for when I quit is finally coming back.

Anyway thanks again for asking. It's all good.
