Dear Charlie Sheen,
Hmmm...actually I agree more with LaFemme; this is probably not so much to do with his alcoholism but an emotional meltdown, maybe a manic episode.and I actually have more empathy for that than simply acting out because he's an alcoholic. I still stand by everything I said earlier.
Anyhow, for the record, I do not own a TV, I have never seen this man on TV and can't recall seeing him in a movie either. I'd barely heard about him before I read about him here and have spent perhaps a sum total of an hour of my entire life reading transcripts of what he said in recent interviews and a few editorials (slate dot com had a good one) and news stories.
So maybe he's a really swell guy and I'd have a more charitable opinion if I watched the Today Show or Oprah or Fox News or any of those things.

I don't know- Maybe he doesn't want sobriety. He knows about it- obviously has been to AA and actually said things that sound like AA, like admitting when he was wrong, honesty, etc. Maybe he just likes where he is and can afford it. It's kind of refreshing to see a celebrity come out and say the truth about how they feel instead of being all fake and "remorseful". There will be those who choose the lifestyle, and at least he's not homeless on the street like so many who are.
I just watched several clips of his interviews. My reaction as a recovering alcoholic is a feeling of frustration and sadness that nobody seems to be getting through to him. He not only dismissed AA but therapists and various others who have tried to help.
I wondered what anyone could possibly say to him that might plant that seed in his mind that he could use some help and support?
I imagined sitting in an AA meeting next to him and wondering what I could possibly say that he could relate to.
I don't feel any sense of judgement or criticism towards him. I see things getting much worse for him before they get any better.
An AA speaker once said: "You can hit bottom in a mansion". It reminds me what a great equalizer this disease is.

I think it is a terribly sad situation.
He has five children, parents, and siblings. I know their hearts must be heavy right now.
I wish the media would just turn the spotlight off of him, but, unfortuantely, that is not
the way the media machine works.
Praying for him to find his way back to the land of the sane and sober on whatever path he decides.

Altho it's obvious Sheen has problems, I can't help feeling like all these interviews etc are staged or an elaborate act.
There is no way his management would allow him on TV acting the way he is if it was genuine.

His press agent quit the other day because of what Charlie is doing. I believe it is genuine and I believe Charlie is out of control right now. I truly hope he gets some help.

After reading these posts I suspect a lot of hating Charlie Shean because of his money. He is a very entertaining actor (Majer League). I always thought Alcoholics were suppose to be non-judgmental? Ask yourselves, what if he did somehow manage to find Sober Recovery.com? It's a shame that he would find hurtful comments from people who should remember pain and suffering. The famous Dr. Drew on his celebrety rehab show even said that famous people have it tough.

According to a addiction specialist at Hazelden Rehab that one of the media outlets interviewed who "analyzed" Sheen's "epic" (he'd call it) interview, the behavior he is displaying is of one who's brain is attempting to reorganize itself after long-term stimulant use (in his case cocaine) - It can be a common thing to occur, according to this one individual. While I'm sure alcohol doesn't help his situation - at all - I'd tend to believe the majority of his behavior is relative to his (now, past) heavy cocaine use.

I don't *hate* Charlie, i'm just shaking my head that he can go to the media, he can abuse women, he can get a "briefcase full of coke" delivered to him, it's made public knowledge and he's still walking around proclaiming he is more important than the president of the United States (if you believe the media).....and no one charges him with drug possesion.
oh boo-hoo Cholly, you so crazy.....how many other common folk lose sobriety and custody? and don't get off?
he is all over the news again tonight....i would have more respect for him and any method of sobriety he is working, if he would not be so working the publicity and shopping a book deal....he is not grateful to be sober (if he actually is, who knows who's pp is in the cup or who's blood is in the tube?), he is arrogant and displays a massive egotistical dilusional personality.
if he were truly seeking sobriety he might guard his privacy and that of his children. he offers them no protection. That is bad parenting....JMHO

My story is nothing like Charlie Sheen's, it's actually pretty boring in comparison.
However, I am thankful that my meltdown was pretty much done in private and my recovery is anonymous in AA. Being a celebrity and falling apart so publicly would suck.

"AA was written for normal people. People that don’t have tiger blood and Adonis DNA. . . I have a different brain, I have a different heart. I got tiger blood, man.” ~Charley S
Defiance is usual, one can avoid many of the labels of suspected substance abuse by becoming super natural...and/or metaphorically duplex philosophical. And Chuck is playing out his distress in an overtly public way.

Just because his publicist left him doesn't mean he no longer has people primping and preparing him for public showings, and the way this looks is too good to be true for the media in my opinion.
I may be completely wrong, but I just have the feeling that Charlie Sheen knows EXACTLY what he is doing here.
