immune system

I'm guessing detoxing crushes your immune system. I woke up this morning with the flu, and I am never sick.

It seems to be a common reaction, yeah.

I know in my case I used to say I never got sick when drinking - but looking back now I did - I simply refused to change my routine and just drank through it...

I caught every bug imaginable my first 3 months and I was never sick when I drank....that's because my body was too toxic for any virus to survive in.

Feel better soon!

Luckily for me my immune system seems about the same- pretty damn good having been a nurse and exposed to almost everything imaginable it kicks ass.

I've gone flu, cold , flu in the last 3 months. Ive been sick longer than healthy since I quit drinking. I'll hopefully start to see some better days once I get over the flu I have now. Is there some correlation to a lower immune system when alcohol is taken away?

It doesn't help that it's "that time of year" for that stuff either. My kids been getting that stuff right and left...

Hope you feel better.

I didn't feel awful after the withdrawals but I joked that I felt worse then when I drank. I saw my Dr. and vented about my health and his response was......well you abused alcohol for how many years? Your body adapted to that so now your body is readjusting to normal...healthy living. Scary thought that all those years of heavy drinking had trained my body to some how push on in horrible conditions.

I will add here that I feel physically better then I have in years now. All those awful things that I experienced with drinking are gone now.

Checking in with the Dr. is a good thing

I remember feeling happy about getting sick when I was drinking. An excuse to DRINK MORE! Hot toddy's at noon, lots of red wine. Sigh. What was I thinking?

I've had 2 recent bouts with Bronchitis ...nothing to do with
either my past drinking or de toxing.

My doctor simply said...."tis the season" and gave me scripts.
The meds finally kicked in and I am 90% better.

Hope everyone feels better soon...

at LF's comment .....

i thought the very same thing...drown the germs in alcohol....

it can depend on what you are exposed to, diet, did you get a flu shot? your body needs time to build itself back up.

good healthy food, proper rest, enough fluids and all that should help.

P.S. - I haven't been sick in the past 3 months, despite it being "that time of year" and being around walking petri dishes (ummm, I mean kids) a lot...so it does get better
