Just Curious...Who else here goes to Celebrate Recovery?
There are lots of great programs out there that fit us as individuals. Mine just happens to be Celebrate Recovery. Looking to see which of you are my CR peeps! Not asking for opinions of CR or any other program or choice not to have one. Just looking for fellow members pretty please! Thanks!
I am not a Celebrate Recovery peep but a fellow alcoholic. I do have a Life Recovery Bible that I have started to get into and I am enjoying it very much. Do you guys use something similar?
I've been to CR. I liked it but didn't love it.
aA least the meetings I went to, there was a lot of Celebrate (which was good) and a lot of God/Jesus (I'm Catholic so I liked that too) but not much Recovery and all the talk was war-story / this is my problem today stuff.
I had 2 other friends that went, we all sat in different areas rooms (they broke into rooms after a neat introduction) and all 3 of us had the same experience.
It was good for what it was but I didn't go back. There are only a couple CR meetings around me, I still can't drive (yet) and I don't know anyone in my area who goes to them so it's a bit of a challenge (rode my bike to the last one but it was about 12 miles away).
I liked the concept....maybe another meeting somewhere else would suit me better.
++ on the Recovery Bible. Plan to get one soon.

TTOSBT: I have been attending twice a week for the last month, about 3 or 4 times here and there before that. I see they offer a Celebrate Recovery Bible,I imagine theirs and yours both focus the commentary sections on recovery specific issues, just different author/theologians? I have a general study and women's study, but a recovery study would make a nice edition!

DayTrader: Guess it may depend on who is running it. Not a lot of focus on war stories at mine, mostly stories of what is working, the benefits of a new life and yes...celebration of freedom!
I'd absolutely be down for that. My hope was that it'd be like an AA meeting with MORE talk of God. That wasn't my experience but, like I said, I'm gonna try another one or two when I can.
CR like AA is supposed to adhere to a strict formula that would eliminate war stories but like all human endeavors is subject to leadership's control of meeting content. Unlike AA meetings are pretty sparse and you cannot "shop" for a great meeting in your area until you find one.
Developed by recovered alcoholic assistant pastor at Rick Warren's Saddleback Church it is an excellent program that encompasses all believers not only those in drug or alcohol addiction so it is a "broad program" based on the Beatitudes.
Obviously the HP is Jesus and He is proclaimed as the Healer and Deliverer and given all the praise for His help in overcoming our addictions, hurts and hangups.
Most churches sponsoring CR require leaders to be card carrying members of their church (most are Southern Baptist in theology) and while well meaning and full of love and compassion most have not had the experience of a life shattering addiction to drugs or alcohol and recovery. CR in time may very well catch up to AA in getting a lot of healthy long term sober members to help mentor/disciple newcomers but most meetings are just getting their legs under them.
As committed believers we attend CR and love it but hooking up with Christian brothers and sisters in AA with a lot of good sobriety and wisdom has been the lifeline for our family.

Thanks Carol! If it's okay, here's the meeting finder:
Find a Group | Celebrate Recovery
Didn't know how to turn it blue, so I guess just copy and paste
