Case in point; I just read or at least tried to read ( the book made me really mad), "Healing the Addicted Brain". It is a bestseller and I was excited when I got my copy from the library. What a load of garbage this book is. It is full of recommendations of what type of pharmaceutical drugs will stop craving etc. I thought the book would talk about vitamins / minerals etc., but no.

Doctors are in the business of making $$$$$$. Take your health in your own hands and educate yourself about vitamins etc. There isn't any money to be made for doctors to tell you to take vitamins. Plus the FDA doesn't approve of natural ways to heal oneself because again, there isn't money to be made in natural cures.

I know that my damaged nerves hurt about 95 % less since I have been taking quality B vitamin supplements. The tingling has completed stopped too. My doctor just tried to push anti-depressants on me to heal the pain. Sure the pain stopped, but I quit the pills after a week because I was not about to fall in the trap of having to take drugs for the rest of my life.
I apologize in advance for rambling.
I think that many makers of natural supplements, etc. can be just as bad as doctors. There is a lot of completely false information online as well.
Example: There are claims that the regular vitamins do not work. Something about them being water soluble or some other nonsense. However, many people have overdosed on things like vitamin A and iron. So if they aren't being absorbed, how'd they overdose? Most of this is just hype created by the makers of "natural" supplements, which are of course, three times the price and sometimes more.
Don't get me wrong, I use many natural supplements. I also take regular vitamins I get in the grocery store. I use a Super B complex in addition to my multivitamin which has done wonders for my anxiety.
All that being said, I agree many doctors push medications. They are heavily marketed to by the pharamaceutical companies. What they don't tell you is that your body has to process these medications. Load up on enough medications and it can be just as hard on the body as alcohol.
My last doctor was an SSRI pusher. I went in there asking for something to help me sleep as I have intermittent insomnia that lasts for several days at a time. He gave me Trazodone. Its an SSRI. He also tried to push Lexapro on me even though I insisted I wasn't depressed.
You could not PAY me to take an SSRI. I won't say what my profession is in the interest of remianing anonmymous. I will say I have had 20 or so clients and a close friend attempt suicide. Every single one of them was on an SSRI. There have been so many suicides in connection with these drugs that the FDA is now requiring a blackbox warning. Yet the doctors are still pushing them.
I went back to the doctor when I found out Trazodone was an SSRI and asked for something different. He refused to prescribe me anything else. When I told him my reasons and started listing all the side effects of Trazodone, he got really angry at me and told find another doctor. Well, excuse the hell out of me for being informed about what I put in my body. Bear in mind, I have no medical insurance and was paying $100 a visit. Needless to say, I will not be going back.

His health care isn't perfect, but anything else would be called "smocialism"!!!!!

This country is backwards in many ways and that's enough from me on politics.

I don't know what kind of damage I have done to myself, but i'm getting sober first, get a clear head and take care of the most important thing that i neglected while drinking, my body.

Best wishes.
