Want to get a job
I am a self recovering alcoholic. I was fired from my last full time job nearly 8 years ago because of "not performing to standard" as a result of my addiction. I am in recovery and have very low self-esteem because of being fired. And the job prior to that I walked out on also because of drinking. Before those two incidents I had a good track record. How do I get back in the game? I'm finally at a point where I am ready, willing, and able. I can explain the long absence as being a stay at home mom but how do I get past the black marks on my record?

Hi why jump straight into the scene you left? maybe try something less demanding and stay there for a few months so then it will go on yr record as a good mark and show an improvement on yr work record? remember easy does it...Keith

Welcome.....well done on your sober time.....
If you llive in the U.S. check into your states
assistance for re-training. The fastest growing field
is health care.
Jobs are difficult to find tho. In my state we have
11% of the work force unemployed....and I know many
who are working part time or over qualified for what
they are doing.

That's a GREAT idea--a holiday job. Also, don't discount temp agencies. I have filled in with jobs from them when I was in-between jobs. They also sometimes turn into permanent jobs--a lot of employers like to hire that way because they get to "try you out" before they commit to hiring. I got one permanent job that way.
