I never really got this one until i actually got sober...i would put together short periods of abstinance but would be hanging round the same places drinking coffee instead of alcohol...

What i found so interesting about the phrase is that it actually applies to people, places and things not just location when you think about it...

Hanging round with the same people and/or places and/or things scuppered me many times and this is another important part of meetings and that is to make some new 'friends'...having someone that was on the same path as me was crucial in the very early stages...

But then it is also important to remember to stick with the winners and
that like always attracts like so choose the new people you hang around with well...and then there is the problem of the insanity thing too so you will choose people that are as nutty as you initially so it is important to have that sponsor for guidance on all these things...

Actually I found that after getting sober the people, places, and things changed on their own.

AA (the 12 steps) is a way of life I can practice outside of meetings and inside of meetings.
Going to meetings gives me a lot of chances to pass it on and be of service and see how God is working in other peoples lives.They also remind me of where I came from and who and what brought me to where I am today.Where 2 or more are gathered............

there is no substitute for you
if one of my old drinking buddies came in and saw me sober,well,you know the rest of the story....right
