keeps getting better....
keeps getting better....
i took the family out today to adopt a dog. i haven't had one for about 14 years so we filled out some applications with our local shelter.
we had 2 great interviews.
next week we get them to do a home visit and then we can take one home.
a year ago, i couldn't keep myself alive let alone a plant.
i feel pretty happy that i'm able to do this now.
anyways...just wanted to share that. I feel pretty amazing.... have a great holiday weekend.

Big hugs for you for wanting a shelter dog. All three of mine were rescues and are now living like royalty.
My dogs love me drunk or sober but I love them so much better sober.

You are doing a wonderful loving thing to adopt a shelter dog. He/she is going to be a very lucky dog thanks to you.

gOOD FOR YOU!
I take it it's a no kill shelter. When you adopt him it'll make room for a stray or one from a kill shelter. You'll be saving a life!
My girl lab came from a resque where she had been pulled out of a kill shelter one day short of eutanasia. That's her in my avatar.
My male was found in the woods with a broken leg. I love my dogs like family!

i've always been a pit bull /rottie person. i've had numerous bulls ands rotties when i was younger, and have a large place in my heart for them. the bulls aren't great with other dogs usually, but have a great love for kids.
we have our eye on an 8 month old pit who was a last minute rescue from a kill shelter in NC. she's awsome...she played with my daughter most of the time we were there.
i also have my eye on a young AM staff adult that looks very very scary, but so do i so we instantly bonded. he's an amazing dog too. he worked with kids before he was brought to the shelter after his parents lost their home.
either one will be a great choice.

Pit Bulls are gorgeous dogs. They have a ton of potential because they really love their people. Am Staffs are beautiful, too.
I am sure you'll find a wonderful friend whichever dog you choose. Dogs are amazing teachers of life. I've learned so many good things from my little dog.

We all know there are different breeds with various good and
bad points. What suited my circumstances at one time ..Akitas
no longer would be practical these days.
Regardless of the breed or mixed breed you choose...training your
dog is vital for both dog and humans....

BD, I'm a cat person, but putting that aside (I have 5 cats, all rescues and all indoors) what you said about not being able to do what you did, without being sober, rings so true with me. Pit's are a much frowned upon breed here in So Cal, but I know they are a fantastic breed if well taught and cared for. Best of luck with the new family addition!
