liver pain

Hi

I am not looking for medical advice. I am just wondering. I have had pain over the liver and sometimes on the left side after 10 days of not drinking. I have also had alot of itching. I am freaking out although my doctor ran blood tests and an ultrasound and everything seems to be fine. I was just wondering if anyone else had these symptoms and how long did it take to go away. I appreciate input. This site has been a great help.

if you've been checked out by the doc and your tests came back normal, the itching is usually a symptom of mild alcohol withdrawal. it sucks beyond belief but it does go away. i had it too.

as far as the pain in your side, your gallbladder is right on top of the liver and is commonly mistaken for liver pain. you might get that checked out too. it could also be mild digestive issues or even just plain gas.

liver pain

One thing that I forgot to mention is that I had my gallbladder out in January.
I also had a biopsy and the doctor said my liver was pristine. I continued to drink though because of stress. I can't believe that I am in pain and worried about cirrhosis. I keep self diagnosing things such as red palms, itching, Ect.. I am reaching out, I am at my bottom but have no intentions of drinking. I would really appreciate any input.
thank you

You could have many things going on.....not every health
problems stems from alcohol or early sobriety.
Checking out medical sites always made me feel worse.
self diagnoseing is not accurate anyway.

Speaking about sites...you may not be aware of this

http://www.tlctx.com/ar_pages/paw_part1.htm

See a dermatologist about the itch...there are products
both OT C and prescription to ease itcing.
Only a doctor can tell you the cause.

Sorry to know of your distress....

I would suggest that you go back to your doctor and discuss. He may even refer you to a specialist or do more diagnostic studies but who knows? Unfortunately, we cannot offer medical advice, but personally I would be relieved if my doc said things were fine (i.e. non-life threatening).

Given the chronic alcohol use, I would see your physician again, liver disease may produce a rise in ammonia based metabolites that can cause itching.

rreg, you've been coming here for months now with various medical concerns that you relate to your drinking. Are you interested in quitting for good yet?
