Best of luck to you. I know how irritating it is to wait for important results...

I got the results on Friday. Doctor said the sample revealed "moderate scarring" of the liver tissue. He said that it indicates that at my age (32) my liver has been working too hard for too many years. Continuing to drink is no longer an option. He said I am young man and otherwise healthy and that I could turn this thing around. I have another biopsy scheduled in x8 months.

The news could have been a lot worse. There was no talk of a liver replacement from anyone. Just thought I'd give an update. Thanks for the prayers and supportive messages. They helped me through this excruciating waiting period for the results.

Wishing everyone a happy, sober weekend!

Glad to know the situation isn't all that bad. You can do this, mercurial. Hang in there and find some face-to-face support to help you.

Thank you for updating us, MM. I am glad you had relatively good news.

I really believe you can make a quit for you. If I can do it, anybody can do it.

Great news, MM,

See, this is what I was telling you (LOL, me saying "told ya so")--now that you KNOW what's going on, you don't have to be all wrapped up in fear anymore, but your path is clear.

My second husband got a similar diagnosis from his biopsy--"early cirrhosis"--and was told as long as he didn't drink, he should be able to live a normal, healthy life. Sadly, he went back to drinking, and I'm frankly a little amazed he is still alive.

So don't take your recovery for granted--this is quite literally a life-or-death proposition for you. Use it as a motivator, but look to the future and work on attaining happy, healthy sobriety. Your recovery can be an inspiration and service to others facing similar health issues and fears.

So glad you got this very hopeful news.

Glad to hear from you mercurial, and happy that it didn't turn out as bad as you feared it would be. It took balls to do this and now you have a clear perspective. You can beat this and live a good and happy life

Great news. Thank God the liver can recuperate to a certain degree. Makes me shudder to think I drank mouth wash and did other horrible things to my body. My insides are probably a mess too. Thank God things weren't worse than they were. If you quit drinking for good, you realistically could add 10-20 years to your life. And that's far and away more valuable than anything alcohol can do for you.

I guess that is relatively good news, and if you stop drinking your liver will probably recover pretty well.

The waiting for test results must have been quite stressful. In my mind I probably would have imagined a lot of worst case scenarios.
