Wink Finally Said I'm an Alcoholic

Tonight I went back to my first AA meeting for myself. Originally I was going to AA/NA, because my partner and therapist wanted me to go. It was different experience this time and I actually spoke and said I'm an alcoholic. Usually when the microphone gets close to me I pass it and don't say anything or leave before it reaches me. I picked up my white chip and it felt really good to pick one up and be committed to trying to live a sober life and not on my way to buy alcohol or drugs.

Well this is how I fell tonight and I don't know if I will feel like this tomorrow, but at least I know that tonight I will not have a drink nor do I desire one. I think that's a very good start.

When I came home, my partner asked me how the meeting was and said he was very proud of me.

The battle is just beginning, but like my sister I am a fighter.

Great, TE! Yeah, it really DOES feel different when we want "different" for OURSELVES.

You deserve this. We all do.

Good for you for having the courage to get your chip and to speak up in the meeting. I know it was a huge relief for me when I was able to accept that I was an alcoholic. Very good start indeed!!

Good job. Don't worry about tomorrow. For tonight, you went, you feel good, and you are not going to drink. That's awesome. Tomorrow, well, that is another day away. As my counselor likes to say "if you have one foot in yesterday and one in tomorrow, you are p*ssing all over today."

Realizing and admitting you are an alcoholic is a huge step. now, the work will begin. But you can do it.
