Had a non alcoholic beer..
and won't have another one!! I can't believe how much it tastes like the real thing.. and the sensation I got when drinking it, brought me back to my drinking days.....almost like a flashback!! I can see how those drinks can be a bad thing in recovery... I'll stick to my water!!!
I don't think that I could handle doing that, to me nothing good could possibly come from that.
My friend who is in sobriety said she had some soda in a wine class at the melting pot. Something like that I wouldn't mind. Sometimes I like drinking Fitz cream soda from a bottle, just because I don't drink doesn't mean I cannont enjoy drinking out of cold glass.

Foods made with alcohol
as many say is cook out
with high heat.
Bread pudding with bourbon
sauce sure sounds good even
if they say the alcohol is cooked
out of it.
I know near beer and foods
that have alcohol in it and
from the start my recovery
became number one and
that important in my life.
I dont sit there and dream,
fantasize or entertain those
thoughts in my mind about
the taste or what effect it
would or had on me.
It's a luxury I don't need or
want.
For me, near beer wouldnt
do it....i would need the real
thing and there isnt enough
of the real thing in this world
to satisfy my cravings for it.
Near beer or O'duols along with
all alcohol bottles and cans have
that skull and cross bones across
the front with the word "poison"
written on it for me.

Near beer is still made like real beer, just basically they stop short & attempt to boil off the alcohol, or use a special stain of yeast. It's meant to taste the same and still has alcohol in it (usually about 1/6-1/10 the amount).
No. I would never recommend anyone do anything they feel uncomfortable with. If you feel it would put your sobriety at risk, then I would recommend you stay away from it, and I would never suggest anyone in early sobriety drink NA brew. Yes, it does contain trace amounts of alcohol but even so, it has never triggered me to drink the real thing. I very rarely have more than one or two at one sitting, but it is a nice alternative for me when I want the beer taste without all that alcohol. Your results may vary.

If I delibertly ate food containing alcohol
or if I drank that trace of alcohol in
"non alcoholic" beverages.......
I would re-start my sobriety...because my thinking
it was ok.......needs adjusting.....
Anyway you cut it....abstinent means just that.

My sponsor warned me against near beer and things such as taking too many vitamins/supplements, since I was a pill-popper too. Good thing she did, as I can see this would be a problem for me. Besides, I was only a fan of stuff like Sam Adams or Guinness, so I don't want a near beer that tastes like Budweiser or Coors, lol!

It was a rhetorical question used to make an analogy. The lens we use to view other people is often much clearer than the lens through which we see ourselves.
