Metallic taste?
My last drink was 10:30pm on Friday night. Yesterday, I noticed a subtle metallic taste in my mouth. It doesn't interfere with the taste of food but is only noticeable when not eating. Is there a connection to drinking and cessation?
I had that metallic taste and a couple of days later i also developed oral thrush which made eating horrible for a few days. it does get better though.
hang in there
If you get oral thrush it is a clear sign of excessive Candidates, which is exceedingly common for alcoholics, probiotics can help with this, although if you have a really bad Candidates overpopulation you should probably get rid of all sugar in your diet for a month in addition to the probiotics.

I carried a roll of Lifesavers around early on....
I just figured it was my body de toxing.
Trush? Candidates? Only a doctor should diagnose those
and decide how to treat those conditions.
ES....good to know you are sober...

My infant was certainly diagnosed with Thrush.
and treated accordingly.
Nothing to do with alcoholism or de toxing
he evidently came down with it in a hospital nursery.
That's why asking a medical professional is best....and why
SR members are not allowed to give medical advice.

I woke up with the taste of chicken feathers in my mouth only to discover that half of my pillow was missing??
I checked with my dentist and he suggested I change to nontoxic foam pillows. It worked but now I wake with a kind of foam taste sometimes.

Love your avatar! I have a Siberian husky. Sweetest dog in the world but so stubborn!
There's actually a whole raft of possible reasons for the metallic taste - some are serious some are not - not all of them are connected with alcoholism.
Please see your doctor for definitive diagnosis and treatment.

Stubborn-Independent-Self centered- Similar personality to a cat!!
I can relate to all that. What can I say, I love 'em!! At one point I had enough to pull a sled, but I got older and heavier and they just got older. Now when the snow blows we just sit by the fire and stare at each other... It’s not that bad really!...

The same thing happened to me - when I first stopped drinking, I had the "metallic" taste in my mouth all of the time. Food tasted very strange to me and it continued during my 3 weeks in Rehab. I was worried that it would never go away. But it did, and now (20 months later) food tastes great and life is great!!!
