I am an addict AND an alcoholic
First time I have come to terms with that. I always said I was not an alcoholic, but I would have been if I didn't have drugs. In reality, my drinking did cause me problems, and I know that if I ever take another drink, it will be too much.
Me Too OWW i Was a Heavy Pot Smoker Before i Was Ever a Heavy Drinker!
I go to AA sometimes. Right now not as much because the meetings here are during the day and I have to take my tantrum-prone two year old with me. I really enjoy the perspective I get at AA meetings. There is also a lot more clean time there, so there is a lot more wisdom to be gained, although NA helps me more with my specific problems since I do not usually crave alcohol, can be around it without feeling like I will relapse, can turn down a drink without a problem, etc. However, I know that if I do return to drinking I will overdo it like I always do. I am enjoying being clean AND sober.
Good for you for saying that, takes guts. I'm an alcoholic, but when I have a good beer buzz I'll do coke-acid-X or anything crazy like that w-out even thinking of it. Staying sober to me starts with the alcohol. It's the same w-cigs, if I am drinking I'm smoking like a chimney, when sober I don't even buy them. It's all rolled up in one enchilada for me, alcohol=all the bad stuff!!

Man, I can't believe how alike we are/were. Peas in a pod man when it came to getting wrecked. lol We would have been trouble! haha.
Grateful to be sober. Grateful to be a recovering alcoholic and addict.
Being sober for me has to be 'clean' and sober.
peace
