Bummer! Long term sponsor moving out of state.

Last time we met, my sponsor told me he is moving to California. It's very cool and exciting for him, etc. But I'm a little bummed. He's been my sponsor (my only sponsor) for... gosh, at least 6-7 years. I haven't been sober that long, but he's stuck with me.

We have a great sponsor/sponsee relationship and I'm going to miss him.

So now I have to go and get a new sponsor. I have a couple months.

I see myself (possibly) putting this off until the last minute, rating anyone new to me against him, and finding faults in them pretty fast if they don't do things exactly the way he does. I know this isn't how I should be going about it, but that would be my MO probably. Got to go into this with an open mind. New opportunities to learn new things via a new sponsor's own experience.

Wish me luck!

Good luck! I've not done AA (yet) and, so, have never had a sponsor. So the best I can offer is my heartfelt wishes for this to work out well and in a way that helps you stay sober.

Get Skype, it's free and with a good webcam it will allow you to have great chats with your sponsor, no matter where in the world they are

Good luck man....

Maybe ask your sponsor who he'd recommend?

Who knows.....maybe getting a new sponsor will be the best thing you've ever done....

Before you find a new one....just to refresh your memory
please read the official AA guideline on sponsorship

"Questions and Answers on Sponsorship"

is often on the free literature rack in meetings.

It's also on line.....

Alcoholics Anonymous : Questions & Answers on Sponsorship

I too thinking asking your current sponsor is a good idea.

All my best to you and your sponsor...
