My sister

l was just at my sisters and she told me some of the things l had done during my 3 week bender a few weeks ago.
Things l do not remember.
It was very frightening.
The story's opened my eyes.
l will never be able to drink again.
l was thinking of staying clean for a while and then try to moderate. (back to 2 beers a day )
Her story made me see that that would be suicide.
So... never again.

Yes l have, the things she told me were so scary, that l know l will not survive another time.
l have no wish to die in a horrible way because of my drinking.
Am doing everything possible to prevent it from happening again.
Life is to precious.

Penny
I've known you for a while now - you're not a moderating type of drinker.
I'm very glad you've realised that.

Penny, I'm glad you realized you can't control your drinking. It's never fun to hear about ourselves behaving badly, but this time it sounds like it helped you. I hope you're able to find a plan that works for you.

I don't want to drink ever again either. But I don't make promises. In 11 days I will have 16 months. I use the friends and fellowship from AA to help keep me sober. Maybe you could give AA a try.

Penny,

Although I'm mainly an opiate addict, I've burned many bridges due to alcohol.

I've found that drinking hard liquor for me has had consequences similar to your story... Things I do not remember and things I'm ashamed of.

I stopped drinking "heavily" (I used to drink 6 or more beers a day) over a year ago because of the relationships I've ruined. The sad thing is, I don't even remember what I did to ruin some of my best friendships...

We addicts have something in common, once we get a taste of our drug, it's almost impossible to stop, no matter what the consequence.

For me, I found that the amount of alcohol I drank in one night is not worth the amount of apologies and alibis I had to give the next morning...

Hope this helps... Stay positive and love your life!

Penny....

I sure did some harmful risky actions in blackouts.

One of the mot positive things about early sobriety
no more drinking meant no more blackouts...

Well done on your 2 weeks

l am taking "refusal"that makes you very sick after one sip, am going to meetings of a "selfhelpgroup" with others in the same position who know excatly what you are talking about, see my GP once a week for a good talk, and for some wierd reason suddenly my eyes have opened.
l have stopped many times before always thinking "oh.. in a while l will be able to drink again and it won't happen again.
Now l see that is not true.
Just in time...l hope.

P.s thank you all for your input... that gives me energy !!
