Improving eyesight with sobriety

Has anybody else noticed improved eyesight the longer they go without a drink?

I'm at day 26 sober and can read a magazine held in my lap again.

Yes my eyesight has gotten better. Especially in low light situations and I feel like I focus quicker.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sadly, at my age, I am getting ready for reading glasses to improve my close up vision (I have terrible eyesight, I have been nearsighted almost all my life). Bifocals may not be far away. However, the "floaters" in my eyes have much improved and my eyes don't hurt the way they used to.

if you ask a medical professional, I think that proper hydration has a lot to do with it. alcohol dehydrates even your eyes...I never knew that.

I used to get double vision with distant objects like telephone lines and mountain ridges in the mornings after drinking. VERY SCARY!!!!

Aehmnm, I understand. I too have endured the cursed floaters since I was about 25. You can see into next week with my glasses . I've been wearing them since I was about 6. That's what I get for too much reading? Thank goodness for contacts But to address the question- during the few times I attained several months of sobriety, nothing changed regarding my eyesight.

I do feel it! And it is fantastic.
Suki, this is the second time you make me laugh today... (the other one was the post about not getting the advertise-type fantastic fresh waking up in the morning)

Well, if I've made someone laugh then my job here is done.

yes defo true, used to have a lot of aches and throbbing pain, around the eyes, not drinking has really alleviated most of this, and vision is clearer.

I was able to ditch my glasses after six months. I don't think it's norm. But, it's pretty cool. :-)

I feel like I see things more clearly on a non-physical scale :-)

Yep, me too.

Even my opthamologist has commented how my eyesight has improved. Now with my new glasses, I can see just fine, near or far.

So, maybe not so rare.

No more floaters for me, and my eyes aren't bloodshot which has to be a positive! One thing I havve heard is smoking also damages your eyes, since I am now 18 days clear of both, I expect to have x-ray vision soon:-)

No first-hand experience for me but a friend in one of my homegroups drank himself permanently blind in one eye and lost about 90% vision in the other. 2 1/2 YEARS after his last drink, several surgeries and a cataract removal, he regained vision in the one eye.

serious stuff, this alcoholic drinking.

YES! When I was drinking I had such blurry eyesight, especially in one eye. Within a couple of months of sobriety my vision was perfect.

Yes, again! My eyesite has improved. I could tell it was getting progressively worse over the years from the drinking, but I could tell a difference within the 3rd week.

is the bit about floaters really true?

i noticed a high correlation between having tons of floaters and recent heavy alcohol use, so much so that i asked my eye doctor. he said there was no such correlation.

does anyone know the mechanism where alcohol causes floaters? i'm very curious abuot this again. thanks.
