I think perhaps it's not helpful to always think in an 'either or' way sometimes.

It could be said I 'failed' many times over 20 years to quit - but the truth was, for a variety of reasons, I wasn't exactly setting myself up to stay sober.

Looking back, I simply needed to look at my approach, and do more - and I should have done that instead of falling back into self pity and doing nothing.

I don't see any failures on SR and I don't think we need bandy the word around - everyone who comes back here keeps trying.

I agree! I've been a member for over two years. Kept trying and 'failing' but with the support of my friends here I never gave up. Now my perseverance has paid off and I'm seven months sober! And I was a chronic relapser. So if I can do it, you can too. Don't give up!
