Need some recommendations folks!
I'm currently reading "Awakening the Buddha Within" by Lama Surya Das. Actually, unless you want to become a Buddhist I recommend skipping to the very last chapter. He tells you how to start meditation in plain english. I've read a lot of how-to mediate books, and none even come close to this one.
"Working out the contradiction between effort and effortless-ness, hard work and simple surrender – helps us become more energetic, steadfast, patient and persevering; it also helps us soften up through the graceful complementary virtues of yielding acceptance and heartfelt gratitude for whatever comes our way. In short, because Right Effort is spiritual effort, it implies being able to just let go, at the right time and in the right way, and simply do what must be done."

Stewart,I can`t recommend any books except the big book but I can recommend a practice I do since I travel all week by myself. It keeps me at peace with myself and the world and it help keeps me sober and sane
I do as I would think my Creator would have me do in my life daily,it makes me stop and think quite often during the day, instead of getting stuck in myself or rushing into life screwing things up,or depending on things that will not keep me sober like I used to do.
