Another new guy :)
Hi, my name is Brian and I'm an alcoholic!
I've been lurking here for a few weeks, and thought it was time to introduce myself. I've read some great things here, and I know you may find it hard to believe, but I've also heard my story a time or two .
I started out at the age of 17 like many others, just drinking to "fit in" and have a little fun. High school found me drinking to pass out or black out every weekend because I always had so much fun (yeah, right!). My habits stayed the same for many years...about 25 to be exact, then something changed. I found I could no longer stop whenever I wanted, or even when I really had to. But I told myself "you still have a good job, a company truck, a house, and a great family at home", so I placed myself inn the functioning drunk category.
Fast forward 5 years...3 Lost jobs, lost house, lost cars and trucks, family on the way out, no friends, and so deep in despair that suicide was the only solution. 3 meager failed attempts in 1 month, all ending up with either a night in jail or worse yet, the psych ward at the hospital, and I was given the gift of desperation. I found my bottom and had my "bright light" experience while strapped to a bed in the psych ward on suicide watch. Thank God I did.
After a 90 rehab program, and 15 months clean and sober, life today far exceeds my wildest dreams. Better house, a relationship with my family I never thought possible, and the chance to give it back in the form of working for a local rehab. I love my A.A. meetings, and have found the perfect sponsor for me. I've gone through the steps, and continue to practice their principals in all my affairs. A.A. has helped me make the life changes I've always wanted to make, and let me become the man God want's me to be. Thanks to the fellowship, and friends like you I've made in the program, I have the sanity to realize that today, I don't have to drink!
Thanks for letting me share!!!

Great story, Brian! Thanks for sharing it with us. It reminded me today that whatever problems I think I have, they're not worth drinking over. Only in sobriety can I really make my life worth living.
Hope to hear more from you!

Thank you all for the very warm welcome! I've been a member of another recovery forum for a while, and have found that very helpful to get me through the "down times". I find that today the most rewarding times are spent with my brothers and sisters in recovery. You all have helped this powerless alcoholic stay sober one more day, and for that, I am truly grateful.

Hi, Brian, great to have you here! Congrats on your sober time.
I think you'll like it here... some forums are not very active but there always seems to be something moving and shaking 'round here.
Pull up a chair, grab the beverage of your choice (mine's diet sprite with grape juice today), and get comfy!
